Test Engineer Battery Systems

You will take your first steps within our 15,000 m2 factory where we will realize our BIG ambitions. As a Test Engineer you will become part of our Operations team with a focus on end-of-line testing or of our R&D team where you will test our new features.

What will you do as a Test Engineer Battery Systems?
As Test Engineer Battery Systems you work together with energetic, multidisciplinary colleagues. We are scaling our production and at the same time we continue to innovate and add new features. The challenge lies in setting up the test structure in collaboration with R&D and operations. Due to continuous innovation, there are always new features that make every product just a little bit different (and better). For our 10 ft. Battery Containers, we strive for standardization and you will play an important role in testing. You know how to build and use hardware, firmware and software solutions to validate battery systems according to strict industry standards. Together with your fellow engineers (Safety, Software, Electrical and Mechanical), you have the opportunity to process your testing experience in the optimization of our products.

In this role, in addition to building and structuring, you also work practically by testing our battery systems in various situations. Our systems can be used in countless situations and this places great demands on our testing procedures. The ultimate goal for end-of-line testing is to link a test program to our systems that starts automatically and reports are generated, any details are fed back to our R&D department. Are you ready to make this a reality? A brief summary of your work can be found here:

  • carrying out tests that are created in consultation with our engineering department
  • designing and building test setups for testing battery systems and associated components
  • developing and maintaining automation-oriented testing software to optimize execution, data collection and analysis
  • investigating failed tests and errors in the field to improve product development and testing
  • (co-)devising tests for new features and new applications in the field
  • analyzing and documenting test results to relevant colleagues

What do we expect you to bring to Big Ass Battery?
We are looking for people with energy, you love what you do and you want to add value to the challenge we face in the field of energy transition. You like to pioneer and find technical solutions for challenging situations. You learn quickly and enjoy diving into the systems we make, which is why you can be found on the work floor every day. Furthermore, you recognize yourself in the following profile:

  • A Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or mechatronics with an interest in R&D testing
  • Practical experience with electrical test equipment (e.g. multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.), instrumentation and measuring techniques
  • Experience with object-oriented software and scripting (C++, Python etc.)
  • The ability to understand technical documents such as datasheets, diagrams, drawings and specifications and quickly translate them into useful and practical actions
  • A curious mindset and the willingness to learn and proactively make improvements
  • You have experience or interest in working with high-voltage systems
  • You have good communication skills in both English and Dutch
  • A bit of a cliché, but work hard, play hard may be your motto 😉

About Big Ass Battery 🔋
We are Big Ass Battery; a fast-growing scale-up in the premier league of the energy transition. We build energy storage systems at the highest level: from battery cell to complete 10ft battery containers. Big Ass Battery is a Dutch company and we are located in Helmond. We didn't fit in our previous office anymore so that is why we traded up in november 2023 to our new facility of 15.000 m2 and a total surface of 41.775 m2! When you join our team, you not only contribute to the production of batteries, but you also contribute to the growth of a company with big ass ambitions. Our batteries are an important part of the solution to the current challenges we face in the energy transition. For example, you can place a Big Ass Battery at an event location or for charging electric cars. Or on a construction site where a sustainable company wants to use electric excavators and other power tools. Companies can even link a revenue model to the use of the Big Ass Battery. Agricultural companies, for example, use the Big Ass Battery for solar energy storage. In short, plenty of possibilities.
