Director Engineering (m/w/d)

THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE

You will lead and empower the engineering team to realize charles’ product and technical vision. Ultimately, you help making charles the next major company in its field. You will grow and nurture the Engineering teams into a well-functioning engineering organization, delivering on-time, in-quality and in-strategy.

THIS IS WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • You will be the head coach for your cross functional teams making them deliver on their challenges forming high impact teams who are proud of their products.
  • You will co-create (with our VP of Product) a vision for your product and break it down to an aligned quarterly roadmap your teams commit to.
  • You create a technical vision of your product and maintain an architecture that supports your team structure or vice versa optimizing and balancing for scalability, feature throughput, and maintainability.
  • You will co-plan (with our VP of Product) the roadmap for your product, ensure as accurate as possible capacity requirements and reflect dependencies in technical implementation leading to a higher throughput.
  • You will set the frame for day-to-day operations. You are accountable for the creation and iteration of product development processes & ways of working, you own and track execution of them.
  • You will hire and welcome each of your engineers on their first day and support them in finding their professional growth and career path at charles. You care about each of them becoming a better engineer and colleague every sprint.
  • You are a client and user advocate representing the engineering towards other charles departments as well as larger clients and their tech departments.

YOU'LL FIT GREAT WITH THESE SKILLS AND VALUES

  • You are passionate about tech, knowing enough from everything (Frontend, Backend, Database, API, infra, security, testing,…) to judge any technical decision and topic. Our tech stack is mainly Vue.js, Node.js, GCP, etc.
  • You have a technical vision for your product and understand that product structures re-assemble organizational structures. You need to manage both to mark it click.
  • Leadership experience, you know how to motivate & coach people, they look up to you.
  • You are a goal getter, your level of energy when solving challenging problems is inspiring to others.
  • You are able to accelerate for breakthroughs and get things done.
  • You focus on what matters by prioritizing effectively, navigating trade-offs and leveraging data for measurable progress
  • You inspire trust, appreciate others, communicate empathetically, and actively champion growth - creating a motivational environment of support and candid feedback.
