About The Role
The dYdX Foundation is looking for a Legal Counsel to join the Foundation’s Legal team. As Legal Counsel, you will be responsable for owning and assisting with the execution of a number of legal projects and tasks that are of high strategic importance for the Foundation. You will work closely with the rest of the Legal team and with the Leadership team, as well as cross-functionally with other key areas of the company such as Finance, Operations, Governance and Marketing.
What You’ll be Doing
- Own internal and external legal processes relating to legal agreements and transactions to be entered into by the Foundation, including by managing the end-to-end process for new legal relationships (negotiating, reviewing, commenting and coordinating the execution of agreements).
- Review internal and external communications, publications and other materials and resources that the Foundation works on.
- Coordinate with other teams and key areas of the organisation to both (a) gain context and obtain inputs from them regarding decisions to be made by the Legal team and (b) provide them with background on, and clearly communicate to them, legal decisions made by the Foundation.
- Act as one of the main points of contact at the Foundation for external parties with regard to legal matters and enquiries.
- Research the crypto, DeFi, decentralised exchanges (DEXs) and DAO regulatory landscape and provide insights and recommendations to the rest of the Legal team and the Leadership team.
- Create and maintain standard legal operating procedures, templates and other useful documentation and resources to enhance and further streamline the legal practice at the Foundation to maximise efficacy and efficiency.
- Act as a key decision-maker when it comes to legal proposals and decisions regarding numerous matters and challenges, both internally and externally.
- Provide ongoing, end-to-end support to the Foundation’s Head of Legal with regard to various matters.
What We’re Looking for
Must-have
- 5+ years of legal practice experience, either at a law firm, in-house corporate role or regulator.
- Specific legal experience in corporate and commercial law, financial markets regulations and fintech.
- Ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal audiences.
- Communicate effectively and in a structured manner across all mediums.
- Comfortable working remotely and independently with a global and distributed team.
- Proactive, comfortable setting own priorities, with a drive to work through hard problems.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Solid knowledge and understanding of the crypto space and crypto-specific concepts and terminology. Personal and/or professional experience with crypto protocols, products or platforms, ideally in the realm of decentralised finance (DeFi).
- Unquestionable passion and intelectual curiosity for all-things crypto, with a particular focus on decentralised finance (DeFi) and, more specifically, decentralised exchanges (DEXs), as well as decentralised autonomous organisations (DAOs).
Nice to have
- Located in Europe.
- Specific knowledge and experience on IP matters (trademarks, domain names, etc.).
- Experience with dYdX products and Cosmos-SDK networks is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with trading is also a valuable asset for this role.
