The Role / Position Overview

Investors’ Chronicle, the investment magazine and website, is looking for an education and audience development editor, a key role as the Investors Chronicle seeks to improve the knowledge of the UK’s investment community, attract new audiences and grow its subscription funnel. 

Previous experience of equity markets and a strong understanding of the world of investing would be a clear advantage. As a senior member of the team, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to editing copy and also supporting more junior members of the team via our mentoring initiative.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the education section of the Investors Chronicle website and magazine, ensuring a steady flow of fresh, relevant and engaging content which serves its purpose of helping readers better understand how to invest whatever the stage of their investment journey, and of attracting new audiences of less experienced investors

  • Write and create content for both educational and audience engagement purposes including, and not limited to, analysis articles on investing, cover features, videos and podcasts. 

  • Produce and maintain guides and tools such as platform surveys and asset allocation models aimed at new investors

  • Work with other section editors via a weekly audience engagement meeting to plan content which can be used for educational and audience engagement purposes by using or repurposing core subscriber content, and writing or commissioning original content aimed at new audience 

  • Edit the education content within the weekly magazine - commissioning further reading and Lessons from History columns; managing the expert portfolio section and filing these articles in the cms, improving online presentation.

  • Plan and deliver multimedia content to support our free content strategy, including podcasts and webinars

  • Lead efforts to improve audience engagement, working with digital team, section editors and journalists to test and refine content and developing analytics to inform commissioning process

  • Work with the marketing team to use free content as the basis for subscription growth, working with the digital editor and digital production editor to develop the editorial engagement and acquisition email strategy, and working with section editors each week to coordinate editorial emails

  • Where required, work with product and technology teams in Sofia on digital developments which enhance our audience engagement.

Required Skills / Experience 

Essential

  • The writing skills required to turn technical subject matter into clear and concise copy for a private investor audience

  • Experience of working in an audience development role

  • Editing skills

  • Digital skills including creating digital content such as blogs and podcasts, and using data to tell stories

  • An interest in the corporate world and investment

  • A strong track record

Desirable

  • Experience of commissioning and editing stories

  • Our writers come from a wide variety of backgrounds, including the trade press, national press and financial services. 

  • Prior experience in financial journalism or the investment industry

  • Good academic qualifications.
