The Role / Position Overview

 The FT B2B Content Sales team is responsible for licensing FT content directly to corporate customers. Our customer base includes global Fortune 500 companies across a range of sectors including finance, government, resources and consulting. 

The Business Development Manager is a sales professional responsible for  development of new business within a number of sectors including government, Corporate, Finance and Professional Service firms in APAC. This will involve the development of an annual sales plan to identify how the overall target will be achieved and identify key prospects and gaps that need to be capitalised upon. The role requires expertise and the dedication to manage the complete sales cycle from prospecting through to closure.  The confidence to present the FTs value proposition to senior stakeholders in various organisations and sectors will be key.

A significant proportion of sales activity is expected to be face to face, employing a consultative sales approach, so relevant experience is required in negotiation and closing sales with senior decision makers and centralised information professionals across several industry sectors. The role also requires excellent networking skills and being able to map and connect multiple stakeholders on the client side as well as internally at the FT.   

In this role you will:

  • Deliver your sales target for the corporate and education licenses

  • Own the development and implementation of new business sales plan

  • Ensure that top prospects and gaps for new business are identified and included 

  • Identify new business opportunities across multiple sectors and own the sales cycle from prospecting to close win.

  • Collaborate with the marketing team on identifying the priorities and to drive activities that will support achievement of the new business target and to recommend but also capitalise on  strategies that have been successful in other regions.

  • Partner with the Customer Success Management team to oversee the plan and to prioritise activity to support the goal of securing new business.

  • Prioritise face to face meetings with  prospects and clients to build strong relationships at a senior level and with stakeholders within the company.  

  • Ensure prospecting tools available are capitalised upon 

  • Feedback customer insight to assist with product development.

  • Build good networks with other teams across the business in order that we can collaborate on joint proposals to new prospects.

  • Keep up to date with market & competitor developments and have the ability to speak with confidence on the FTs value proposition.

  • Networking at industry and company events

  • Document all sales activity in the CRM database, follow up all leads in a timely manner and manage the opportunity pipeline.

Qualifications / Competencies / Skills / Experience

  • At least 5 year’s experience in new business sales and strong hunting skills. Previous experience selling into corporates would be highly advantageous

  • Experience of developing and implementing end to end sales plans.

  • Good influencing skills to gain commitment from clients

  • Target driven and ability to bring new ideas to the table

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a high performing team to succeed

  • Confident in presenting and articulating the value proposition

  • Experience in managing multiple stakeholders at senior level

  • Fluency in (business) English, both oral and written

  • Fluency in native Mandarin or Cantonese

  • The role will require travel
