While our physical events are on hold at the moment, FT Live is now using world-leading event technology, to bring you closer to the people and content that matter.

Job Purpose

The Marketing Manager, Events for FT Specialist/FT Live will work with the Head of Marketing, Events, FT Specialist/FT Live on the delivery of all event marketing across FT Specialist brands. 

This job entails the promotion of numerous events, conferences, awards and webinars and will require skills across a broad range of disciplines. This includes driving delegate recruitment, helping to formulate and execute events, and as an events specialist, lending that expertise to other members of the team where appropriate. It will require the ability to identify, support and deliver campaigns for specific audiences / regions as well as broader initiatives across the cluster.  

Another element of the role is helping to support advertising sales by creating media kits, providing audience information and data when needed.

The Marketing Manager, Events, FT Specialist/FT Live will report to the Head of Marketing, Events, FT Specialist/FT Live and will manage any interns on the team. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities


  • Manage all print and digital marketing activity across their events. Campaigns will include print and digital advertising campaigns, email, and social activity to drive registrations, lead generation, and awareness.

  • Promotion and delegate recruitment activities for events and conferences.

  • Manage marketing spend and budgets on their events. 

  • Devise and implement organic and paid social media strategies to help build awareness, drive delegate recruitment, and hit traffic targets.

  • Work effectively with the FT Brand & Production studio to produce marketing collateral and other required graphic designs for all marketing activity, ensuring the brand guidelines are adhered to.

  • Work closely with other parts of the FT Specialist marketing team, FT Live and the wider FT where appropriate.

  • Stay up to date with sector and industry trends (for example, changes in digital marketing) and ensure that current marketing strategies are in line with these.


  • Ensure that new and existing event brands are, and remain, consistent with existing brand guidelines and complement the brand with which they are associated.

  • Project management of FT Specialist Awards 

  • Identify and implement initiatives and marketing activities to acquire delegates for all events to reach agreed KPIs.

  • Work closely with the events, advertising sales and editorial teams to plan and execute events, ensuring speaker, delegates & sponsors' needs are met.

  • Support the commercial team in understanding the USP of each of our events and the opportunities available to sponsors.

  • Ensure budgets are adhered to work with the Event Manager to manage costs.


Qualifications / Competencies / Skills / Experience


  • Commercially focused marketing professional with strong business acumen

  • Proven track record in successful direct-marketing driven organisation(s)

  • Excellent people management skills - ability to manage up, down and across the organisation and gain buy-in from key stakeholders

  • Demonstrated experience in managing the planning, implementation and analysis of on- and off-line direct marketing to drive event delegates

  • Experience in creating and managing digital marketing strategies and managing the customer journeys

  • Demonstrate practical focus on campaign reporting and analysis

  • Strong influencing skills when dealing with internal and external stakeholders

  • Excellent creative judgement & copy-writing skills with a meticulous eye for detail

  • Demonstrate ability to manage and reconcile a marketing budget

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, ensuring all deadlines are met 

  • Motivated self-starter with high energy and initiative, and a focus on results 

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively 

  • Demonstrate capability with Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Excel (including formulas, charts, graphs etc)

  • Experience of presenting and providing recommendations to senior management


  • Exposure to and knowledge of media/publishing

  • Graduate or professional qualification in marketing or related business area

  • Communications experience
