The Role / Position Overview

The FT’s award winning Technology and Product Team is at an exciting stage of its development and is now looking to appoint a new role to build an in-house L&D Technology Academy to accelerate how we train and develop talent.  

Of the approximately 450 people in P&T, 280 are in the technology function, spread over our three locations. It is a mature team, of mixed levels, that have built and operate a modern technology technology stack, utilising the latest cloud and continuous delivery technologies. 

In this new role you will be accountable for establishing the L&D offering for our technology people, including technical skills development, career pathways and providing direction and guidance to our teams. 

You will take ownership of the roadmap and development of the academy, and clearly define phases and what’s required for us to be successful. 

You will be energised by the opportunity to develop our future Tech leaders and build an industry-leading talent pool of tech professionals. This is a blank piece of paper and you will be excited by the challenge to consult and build a proposition that helps us to address development and retention of talent. 

You will join the FT’s Learning and Talent team who lead on the global talent and development strategy and you will work closely with our brilliant T&P teams in London, Sofia and Manila. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop and manage an in-house academy that enables our technology people to develop at all levels; from early to mid career engineers,  to establishing career paths for experienced and senior leaders. 
  • Design and delivery of learning interventions - you will listen and translate desired outcomes into relevant and engaging learning experiences. Including skill frameworks, secondments, and curriculums that develop the expertise and knowledge of our teams. 
  • Take ownership of programme offer,  planning and communication to ensure understanding and a joined up approach with our other learning academies/domains/specialisms. You will review and ensure a structured approach to our existing training programme. 
  • Partner with our senior leadership team, subject matter experts and business stakeholders to plan, develop and promote the academy and proactively address learning challenges. 
  • Promote a culture in which continuous learning, personal growth and development is recognised and employee led.


Required Skills / Experience 

  • Experience of working in an L&D product and technology field, developing solutions, curriculums and implementing training strategy  
  • Background in development essential and working with engineering teams 
  • A desire to embrace and drive change whilst identifying and implementing process improvements and demonstrating best practice
  • Partner focused with an understanding of how to make ideas practical and relevant; and how to manage internal relationships effectively
  • Knowledge of learning tools and frameworks
  • Project management experience with ability to scope, plan, implement and evaluate Learning and Development interventions effectively.
