The Role / Position overview

The role of the Junior Designer, FT Specialist sits within FT Creative, the FT’s in-house creative team, reporting to the Head of Design for FT Specialist. The creative team works across the FT portfolio producing digital and print creative whilst developing and protecting the FT brand and sub brands within the portfolio. The creative team is part of the Communications and Marketing (CMG) function that works across the organisation to ensure the FT is positioned as an industry leader in quality digital subscriptions. The CMG team is the driving force behind the brand’s reputation ensuring that FT is recognised as the brand that brings modern, responsible capitalism to life in line with our brand platform, The New Agenda

FT Specialist products and services provide niche global audience groups with information that helps them make better decisions and operate more effectively - brands in this portfolio include the Investors’ Chronicle, The Banker portfolio and FT Adviser. The Junior Designer will be a key member of the FT Specialist team working on a wide range of brands and briefs from across the business and play a crucial role in ensuring all marketing collateral has strong brand consistency. 

You will assist in the development and execution of concepts and integrated campaigns as well as working with existing templates ensuring output is consistently on-brand and conforms to best practice across all channels. This role is primarily digital although some print production experience is necessary. 

As well as working under the supervision of the Head of Design, FT Specialist and Creative Director, you will support the wider team and need to be able to work independently across multiple projects that at times can have a quick turnaround. You need to be a self-starter, resourceful, organised and have the ability to work with people at all levels while maintaining acute attention to detail. 

Key Responsibilities and outputs

  • Create visual assets for digital channels including display ads, email, events, onsite, video and social media.

  • Design and deliver print ready assets for event’s collateral.

  • Develop and update content and graphics for our online event platforms.

  • Assist in the conceptual and design development of new campaigns, channels and design opportunities.

  • Confidently update digital and print templates, following brand guidelines. 

  • Assist the wider team in artworking where necessary.

  • Keep up to date with competitors as well as the latest digital design trends and innovations to inform design ideas. 

Required Skills

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite - Animate, After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and XD. 

  • Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS.

  • Knowledge of responsive and UX design.

  • Basic knowledge of Figma.

  • Strong awareness of branding and capability to successfully implement it under guidance.

  • Has a strong portfolio of work.

  • Strong conceptual thinking.

  • Strong typography skills. 

  • Impeccable attention to detail. 

  • Strong organisational skills.

  • Good communication.

  • Enthusiastic team player and a self-starter.

  • Must have a recognized design qualification e.g. BA, BFA etc. 

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working with Google Web Designer and DoubleClick Studio.

  • Experience of working with premium brands.

  • Previous experience in-house/design agency
