Job Purpose

The UGC moderator will implement FT.com’s moderation strategy to ensure dynamic and intelligent discussions across the site’s platforms.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Ensure comments posted in the FT's communities areas abide by the FT.com guidelines
  2. Maintain and monitor the efficiency of the moderation system
  3. Ensure subscribers can access the commenting platform
  4. Liaise with the Community Manager and section editors on commenting matters
  5. Produce reports on relevant moderation statistics
  6. Moderates posts on social media as requested
  7. Responds to requests from Community Manager and social media desk editors from other FT editorial offices
  8. Helps to improve the team spirit and internal work relationships
  9. Performs other functions in the editorial team as instructed by the Team Leader/Manager


  • Graduate of a four-year degree, preferably in journalism, political science or other related fields
  • Experience in communities management or audience engagement, preferably for a news site
  • Excellent English
  • Has strong interest in current affairs as well as business and financial news
  • Sound editorial judgment
  • Strong work ethic and a meticulous eye for detail
  • Team player and open to learning new technologies
  • Willing to work during the Europe shift (2pm - 10pm)


  • Knowledge of digital media legal issues, including social media networks
  • Should be reader-oriented
