The FT has an uncompromising mission: delivering independent, quality information, news and services to individuals and companies around the globe. It’s the cornerstone of our reputation and the heart of our ambitions for the future. But for our people, the FT offers so much more than what we do. Those who are willing to unite around our mission and live our values will find plenty to challenge, inspire and interest them. Like the audiences we serve, no two FT people are the same; but together we help our audience be better informed and understand the world around them. It’s a job that’s never mattered more, and a career that can take you anywhere you want to go.

Our commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace

At the FT, we aim for employees across all regions to have a voice so that diverse perspectives are heard and valued. We believe that a supportive workplace is one where employees feel they can be themselves at work and have the flexibility they need to meet their personal needs. We'll continue to remove barriers for all, and in particular barriers facing employees from underrepresented groups.

FT.com is the award-winning website of the Financial Times, providing the gold standard in global business news and information.  FT.com’s innovative business model has made it one of the world’s most successful digital news operations, with over 1,200,000 paid subscribers and over 5 million registered users. We believe in knowing our readers and advertisers and that is reflected in everything we do – from the FT Web App launched outside the confines of any app store to our “metered” business model.

Data lies at the heart of our digital advertising proposition. It informs decision making across our Ops and sales teams, allows marketers and campaign managers to optimise delivery, allows product teams to test hypotheses and senior managers to understand the flow of revenue and inventory through our multiple digital channels. It also underpins the reporting that we send to customers and is the vital component that allows the FT to demonstrate return on £50m+ of annual advertiser investment.

Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Director of Advertising Data & BI, the purpose of the role is to manage delivery of the components of our ads data strategy that pertain to platform and systems and requires an individual with outstanding technical prowess paired with a keen understanding of the commercial environment in which solutions reside.  Your goal is to empower our sales and campaign delivery teams through a platform that delivers business intelligence.  In doing so, client service should improve leading to improved retention and higher average client spend.   This entails ownership of our platform development roadmap and encompasses construction and management of data pipelines in and out of our partner systems and the application of that information as solutions for the various functional stakeholders across the ads department.  Stakeholder liaison and management is a key component of this role, requiring an ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation to ensure efficient and fair prioritisation that favours scalable solutions over quick fixes and short term hacks.

The role will require close liaison with the FT’s internal tech and analytics teams, line management of our technical analysts and developers as well as close collaboration with Data Strategists, Data Analysts and Ops team data users. It will also encompass day to day management of the relationship with the data systems and service partners with whom we do business, their roadmaps and the contracts that support them. The maintenance of data hygiene, quality, compliance and actionability is central to the role’s mission as well as ensuring that costly manual processes are minimised in favour of automation wherever possible.

Project management is a key skill and the role will require an ability to organise resources for technical teams, applying agile methodologies and project management systems to create a highly organised, transparent and efficient programme of work.

The provision of training and system support is also an essential part of the job, arranging focus groups, training sessions and BAU troubleshooting for data customers, liaising with our Learning and Development department where appropriate.
