This role is a 12 month, fixed term contract to backfill a maternity cover position, specifically in the Professional Services sector. Part of a successful and dynamic team, the Professional Services Sector is responsible for delivering £3m revenue in sales per year. 


The role:

As a sales lead across Professional Services at the FT, this position focuses on 3 distinct areas: Maintaining key accounts, nurturing lapsed or deficit accounts, driving new business.  This position reports into the Head of Professional Services, Legal and Government which sits within the broader B2B EMEA advertising sales team.  It involves  negotiating multi platform advertising campaigns whilst building and managing credible, long term relationships with some of the FT’s biggest professional services clients and their agencies.  You will be tasked with driving revenue across both existing and new clients.  

It is our expectation that you will have  a thorough understanding of the current international and domestic media landscape and B2B sales experience as well as the professional services industry.    You will be responsible for delivering content, digital and print revenue targets through creativity, use of sophisticated research and audience and platform insight.  

Collaboration across teams within the FT is essential and we are looking for candidates that can show that they are able to deliver results through working effectively with editorial, marketing and commercial departments as well as colleagues across the operations teams and the wider FT owned businesses


The Team

This is a hardworking UK based team with a culture that is fun and collaborative. Creativity and an entrepreneurial spirit is encouraged as is a consultative approach to selling based on an understanding of brands and their communication objectives.  As a more senior member of the team, you will also mentor and guide the more junior team members 


The Sector:

The professional services sector includes business services ranging from research and insight providers through multinational consultants and auditors.   Their ethos is to build a better working world, through services ranging from strategy, to technology, diversity, sustainability and corporate finance.  

This is an industry which relies on its ability to adapt to a changing business world and much of their marketing activity revolves around sharing their thought leadership.  As such we need a candidate that can sell holistic editorial partnerships and partner content campaigns across the full suite of FT Marketing Services from Longitude to FT Live events, but with a core focus around advertising and amplification.  


Personal Qualities

  • Personable and professional with a proven track record in direct client and agency sales roles. 

  • An excellent communicator with gravitas, influencing skills and the ability to operate at the highest level.

  • Hungry to develop existing relationships and create new contacts to drive incremental revenue.

  • Genuine interest and passion for the professional services industry and its surrounding disciplines, tech, sustainability and corporate finance.  

  • A market leading understanding of the current media and marketing landscape.

  • An internal collaborator, able to work collaboratively and influence key stakeholders to achieve success for their client patch.  

  • Organised, able to manage their time effectively and work across multiple priorities.  

  • 4 years + experience in multi platform media sales roles.  


Key skills / Experience:

  • 3+ Years B2B media sales experience across direct clients and agencies 

  • Achieve and exceed challenging revenue goals.

  • Act as an ambassador for the FT and solidify its profile within the professional services advertising market.

  • Build long term, high trust relationships with clients and their advisors at partner and planning level.

  • Be seen as a trusted partner and consultant for clients’ marketing and communication needs. 

  • Deliver outstanding customer service in the day-to-day management of clients’ business.  

  • Manage all aspects of the sales and account management process including negotiating complex deals and managing high level projects and timelines.

  • In-depth understanding of the FT’s digital capabilities and wider media landscape to strengthen commercial partnerships.

  • Champion successful product innovations across print, digital and content marketing to meet client needs and generate strong profit for the FT.

  • Build positive working relationships across the business with members of the editorial, product management, research and digital insights team.

  • Generate new and existing business across the FT’s broader Marketing Services Suite (FT Connect). 

  • Maintain strong working relationships with FT Connect Team, drive proactive practices and new development opportunities that lead to commercial success.  

  • Produce Independent lead insights for clients, by understanding research and insights tools, such as a FT GIST to identify problems and potential solutions using FT platforms.  

  • Present sales pitches to a range of internal and external audiences including product leads, clients and media agencies.

  • Effective communications with Global offices to ensure excellent management of international and regional client base.
