Role:

This role is responsible for assisting the Financial Controller in managing the day-to-day financial and accounting activities of FT's legal entity in the Philippines. Additionally, the person will provide support to the business by ensuring that funds are available to carry out its operations within the approved operating plan, forecasts, and capital expenditure budget. This role will work on a mid-shift schedule from 12:00-8:00 PM Philippines time. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing the FT Philippines annual operating plan and quarterly forecasts for loading into Hyperion Essbase. Support Manila-based department heads in preparing their budgets, monitoring actual spending, and understanding variances against the department's operating plan and forecast.

  • Help in preparing FT Philippines monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports, including variance analysis and cash flow statements for submission to FT UK. Ensure accurate recording of operational spending in the books.

  • Participate in developing and recommending cost control schemes for Manila operations, implementing effective accounting and internal control procedures to safeguard FT Philippines' company assets. Review capital expenditure reports and monitor them against the budget.

  • Supervise the annual external audit by working closely with auditors to ensure timely completion and submission of FT Philippines statutory accounts under IFRS.

  • Ensure FT Philippines' compliance with all relevant local rules and regulations, including taxation. Submit required business permits and reports to the BIR, SEC, PEZA, BOI, and other applicable government bodies.

  • Oversee all FT Philippines transfer pricing and tax issues and work with FT UK and APAC to ensure that issues are resolved quickly and in accordance with law. Provide regular updates on issues to key stakeholders and management.

  • Support other newly established APAC offices in financial control, reporting, and compliance.

  • Assist in monitoring FT Philippines' operations in relation to global compliance standards (e.g., IFRS, SOX, GDPR, ABC, etc.). Liaise with Legal and other FT stakeholders on security, contracts, pensions, insurance, banking, investments, forex, etc.

  • Update local Finance process maps and work instructions to ensure alignment with FT global policy. Manage internal audit processes and promptly address any findings by internal auditors and external auditors.

  • Provide coaching to team members and ensure that the team is performing at expected level.

  • Oversee payroll activities for staff, management, and expats. Collaborate with HR and the FT global mobility team to ensure accurate payroll and tax processing.

  • Lead and/or participate on committees, special projects and other additional responsibilities in the Asia region that may be assigned.

Required Skills / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Must be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

  • Relevant experience in finance and accounting role in a multinational company.

  • Experience with financial reporting systems such as Hyperion Essbase, Oracle, or similar ERP software.

  • Proven track record in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and audit.

  • Strong proficiency in IFRS, local tax regulations, and statutory requirements in the Philippines, including experience dealing with the BIR, SEC, PEZA, BOI, and other regulatory bodies. Experience in other Asia region is a plus.

  • Familiarity with compliance standards such as SOX, GDPR, and ABC.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills

  • Effective communication skills – both written and verbal

  • Must be amenable to hybrid working
