About the role:

This role will be responsible for overseeing complex logistics projects from inception to completion, ensuring the seamless delivery of project objectives and requirements while maintaining timelines, budgets and high standards. We’re looking for someone with senior experience within our logistics operation and/or senior experience as a project manager. You’ll work with multiple, different areas of Ocado Logistics and with our retail partners, bringing everyone together to ensure projects are successfully delivered to best practice project management principles and governance. 

You will be:

In this role, you will use your experience to demonstrate the discipline of planning, organising and managing resources and activities to achieve specified outcomes within a clearly defined timeframe and standards.

  • You will develop the business case for change, including the viability of the solution, implementation considerations and an implementation roadmap. 
  • You will be responsible for leading all aspects of the project throughout the lifecycle and you will develop and maintain best in class project documentation to ensure you have continual sight of performance against budget and schedule, risk, issues and significant decisions. 
  • You will be responsible for the business case through to completion and must be confident challenging as necessary to ensure expenditure is justified and business cases are robust.
  • You will be managing multifaceted projects and must keep abreast of related projects within a program or across the department to manage dependencies.
  • In order to ensure project success you will also need to proactively manage risks, issues and changes in a timely manner, creating mitigation plans and and taking corrective action as required to meet objectives. 
  • You will need to prioritise multiple project requirements and make decisions to control the project scope, quality, schedule, costs and resources to keep in line with the project objectives. You should champion continuous improvement and proactively document lessons learned. 
  • You must ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards in all logistics activities.
  • It is critical that you build excellent working relationships and use strong communication skills to manage and influence a large number of senior internal and external stakeholders towards a common vision or goal and keep senior management and clients up to date on project progress.  Ultimately, you will contribute to fostering the company culture and Ocado Logistics values.

About you:

We’re looking for someone with senior experience within our logistics operation and/or senior experience as a project manager. You’ll need to be able to use your experience and network to successfully manage large-scale, complex projects from initiation to closure.  You’ll need 

  • Excellent leadership skills - skilled in building cohesive project teams, fostering a positive team culture, and promoting collaboration, trust, and accountability among team members.
  • Proactive and driven attitude - drive delivery for our business by using initiative, being self-motivated and results-driven, with a flexible approach and strong attention to detail.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills: the candidate must be able to build great business relationships, partnerships and alliances internally, externally and virtually -collaborating effectively at all levels of the business 
  • Confidence negotiating with and influencing others, using understanding of the potential outcomes for both parties to manage conflicts and create win-win solutions.
  • Problem-solving expertise -confident facing into challenges, using data and information to identify and quantify risk and issues and create suitable mitigation strategies
  • Excellent time management & prioritisation skills- ability to adapt to rapidly changing events and environments while accurately judging priorities and keeping track of details to maintain focus on project objectives and deliverables.
  • Strategic focus - maintain focus of the project team on the top priorities, effectively manages overlapping timelines and competing demands, delegates or seeking additional resource when necessary, to ensure that deadlines are successfully met; 
  • Strong financial acumen to develop and manage project budgets, track expenses, and optimise resource utilisation to deliver projects within budget constraints.
  • Understanding of quality assurance principles and methodologies to ensure that project deliverables meet or exceed stakeholder expectations and industry standards.
  • Strong decision-making skills to make timely and informed decisions, considering available data, stakeholder input, and potential impact on project outcomes.
  • An analytical and forward-thinking mindset, coupled with the ability to question expert opinions, is essential.
  • Proficiency working with various data sources, deriving insights, and taking action based on analytical findings. 
  • Continuous Improvement focus: committed to continuous learning and improvement, seeking opportunities to optimise project processes, enhance efficiency, and deliver greater value to stakeholders.
  • Previous experience with real estate, MHE and automation is desirable 

Ideally, the candidate would also have a strong understanding of logistics processes (including transportation, warehousing, inventory management, and distribution) and experience in the application of  “lean / Sigma” techniques and a strong understanding of PPM tools.
