Institute of Export & International Trade (IOE&IT) – Membership Committee

We are now inviting applications from existing IOE&IT members interested in joining our Membership Committee.

This is an important body for the IOE&IT and participation will in return offer you the opportunity to shape the future of the services of the IOE&IT and a platform from which to influence the future of International Trade more broadly. Committee members will also receive complimentary tickets to IOE&IT events.

Basis: Voluntary position (reasonable expenses incurred to fulfil role requirements will be reimbursed in line with IOE&IT policy)

Commitment: One meeting per quarter, once per year in person. Approx 10 hrs per year.

Term: 36 months

Eligibility: Applications are welcomed from all current members of the IOE&IT, with the exception of existing IOE&IT staff or any form of contractor, board member or advisor.

Purpose:

The Committee is an important body – tasked with providing guidance and representing the interests of our members while offering valuable feedback and insight into IOE&IT member services and activities.

Objectives:

The objectives of the membership Committee are:

  • To review the membership strategy and provide feedback and input on the alignment with member needs and priorities.
  • To represent the views and interests of the community of members, ensuring their voices are considered in decision-making processes.
  • Provide a member perspective on IOE&IT services aimed at enhancing value delivery to the membership base.
  • To review and provide commentary on fellowship applications for board consideration, ensuring alignment with the organisation's values and objectives.

Membership representation

  • The Committee shall consist of no fewer than six (6) and no more than twelve (12) members.
  • Members shall be selected from across different membership types and industries represented within the IOE&IT, and will offer diversity.
  • Membership appointments shall be based on expertise, commitment, and alignment with the organisation's mission.

Expectations

Members of the Committee will meet quarterly with at least one meeting scheduled physically. During their tenure, the Committee members will:

  • Engage actively with IOE&IT membership and events to provide valued feedback and insights from their industry and fellow members.
  • Attend and contribute constructively to discussions and decision-making processes.
  • Represent the interests of the membership community and act in the best interest of the organisation.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information discussed during meetings and related to organisational affairs.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Review of Annual Strategy:
  • The Committee shall review the annual strategy for membership.
  • Feedback and recommendations provided by the Committee shall aim to enhance the strategy's effectiveness and relevance.
  1. Represent Member Views:
  • Members of the Committee shall actively engage with the membership community to understand their perspectives, concerns, and priorities.
  • The Committee shall advocate for the interests of the membership community in discussions and decision-making processes.
  1. Review Member Propositions:
  • The Committee shall review proposed initiatives, programs, and propositions affecting the membership.
  • Feedback provided by the Committee shall focus on assessing the potential impact, feasibility, and alignment with member needs and expectations.
  1. Review of Fellow Applications:
  • The Committee shall review and provide commentary on fellow applications for board consideration, ensuring alignment with the organisation's values and objectives.

Timeline

Application close date: 31 May

Appointment confirmations: w/c 10 June

Appointments will be made to ensure diversity and comprehensive representation of IOE&IT membership. Should applications exceed number of seats, final decision will fall to the Membership Committee chair.
