The AI/LLM Engineer Intern role supports the Cybersecurity team by applying advanced AI technologies and large language models (LLMs) to enhance security measures and incident response capabilities. Working closely with the Security Operations Center (SOC) and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams, the intern will be exposed to a dynamic and challenging environment, applying AI to improve Jumia’s security posture, automate tasks, and detect vulnerabilities. This role offers a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies alongside experienced Cybersecurity and Engineering professionals.
What you will be doing
- AI-Powered Security Enhancements:
- Deploy and fine-tune LLMs (e.g., GPT, BERT) for cybersecurity use cases such as phishing detection, anomaly identification, and automated response workflows.
- Develop custom AI applications to improve real-time threat intelligence and predictive analytics.
- Cybersecurity Monitoring and Response:
- Assist the SOC team in identifying and mitigating cybersecurity threats using AI-powered tools.
- Develop and optimize AI-driven alert mechanisms for proactive incident detection and prevention.
- Security Controls Optimization:
- Collaborate with the SecOps team to analyze existing security controls and identify opportunities to integrate AI for automation and efficiency.
- Assist in fine-tuning AI models and monitoring systems for improved accuracy and performance.
- Incident Handling and Automation:
- Support incident response activities by creating and integrating AI workflows to expedite detection, triage, and remediation.
- Maintain and enhance automation scripts for repetitive security tasks.
- Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (SOC, SRE, SecOps) to implement scalable AI-driven security solutions.
- Deliver well-constructed technical documentation for AI implementations, models, and workflows.
What we are looking for
- Exposure to cybersecurity tools (e.g., SIEM, IDS/IPS) and practices.
- Familiarity with security frameworks and certifications (CISSP, CEH, or similar).
- Experience with CI/CD methodologies and version control systems (Git, Jenkins).
- Ability to automate tasks and debug code.
- Knowledge of LLM fine-tuning and NLP pipelines.
- Awareness of the cyber threat landscape and ability to evaluate trending threats.

- Ability to debug and optimize code and automate tasks.
- Understands the concepts of public cloud Infrastructure.
- Systematic problem-solving approach, strong communication skills, and a sense of ownership and drive.
- Previous tech internships or relevant work experience programming in C, C++, C#, shell, Java, JavaScript, Go, or Python.
- Security industry certifications like CISSP, CISA, CRISC, CGEIT, CEH, and CHFI will significantly benefit.
- Knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems and supporting infrastructure elements.
- CI/CD methodologies with Git and Jenkins.
