Managing Director

We are looking for an experienced Managing Director who will drive the next stage of Kadmos evolution from a pure technology provider to a regulated EMI-licensed institution that fully controls its destiny and can successfully grow between industries and geographies.

You will own the FCA Electronic Money Institution application process and be the face of Kadmos in front of the FCA and beyond. You will lead the set-up of a new business structure and operations ready to go live when we are licensed, as well as the migration process to the new regulated operating model. The position will be based in London with regular travel to Berlin.

Since we’re an early-stage start-up, you will need to be comfortable with change, very proactive as well as willing to bring new ideas to the table. What you can expect

• Be part of the leadership team. Define the strategic objectives of the company together with other senior leaders. You will be part of the Kadmos Steering Committee, which includes leaders of key teams and founders.
• Own the FCA EMI application process. You will be the one ultimately responsible both for the application pack and the relationship with the FCA, in close coordination with the MRLO & Compliance Officer.
• Build a new operating model with us. We are building a new operating model for Kadmos where we are insourcing many functions that are currently done by a single provider (KYC, KYB, transaction monitoring, safeguarding, ledger etc.). We are building many of these capabilities ourselves and diversifying the set of providers for the rest. You will play a key part in this and manage relationships with our new providers.
• Be hands-on. While we will bring a network of external advisors, you will be defining, owning and building a lot of things yourself.
• Company management. You will ensure the day-to-day effective performance of the management of the firm, in accordance with commercial and regulatory obligations.
• Drive policy decisions. You will be responsible for operations and policy decisions in coordination with the group leadership.

What you bring along

• You have 8+ years of professional experience in banking or payment services, including 5+ years in leadership roles like MD, CEO or COO. Experience with regulated high-growth, venture-backed startups would be a plus.
• You have extensive experience of dealing with the FCA or other regulators both on application and live stages.
• You must be considered “fit and proper” by the FCA to take on the role of managing director of an authorised E-Money institution.
• You are hands-on and very comfortable with diving into the weeds of things. We expect you to both do a lot of heavy lifting yourself and masterfully manage external advisors.
• You are an expert on the firm’s regulatory responsibilities under the E-Money and Payment Services Regulations.
• You have experience in designing and implementing appropriate compliance and risk monitoring frameworks.
• You have a proven track record of leadership experience and can independently identify risks and opportunities for the company.
• You can plan, develop, implement and direct the organisation’s operational and fiscal function and performance.
• You act as a strategic partner to the Leadership team by developing and implementing the company’s strategy.
• A strong background in either finance, treasury or operations would be a plus
