Kano (www.kano.ca) is looking for a People Ops (HR) Coordinator to support our growing team. This position is full-time, open to either new grads from a post secondary HR program or to those who already have some experience in the field. 

This position will work alongside our People Ops Director in a general capacity, in a variety of administrative, operational and human resource functions. The successful candidate will be the point person for our facilities management, be in charge of employee onboarding, engagement, payroll and benefits and oversee recruitment processes. You can expect growth and opportunity in this role. 

While we are very flexible in terms of scheduling and we operate as a (mostly) remote team, this specific position will have an onsite requirement at times and thus only those candidates who are willing to occasionally work from our downtown Victoria facilities will be selected.

This position is well suited to someone who is extroverted, self-motivated, able to work autonomously in a remote setting and has a high level of ownership over their work. 

 

In your first month

  • Familiarize yourself with the team, and our processes 
  • Prove you are an excellent communicator (oral and written) - across teams, departments and up the chain
  • Support the People Ops team with onboarding new hires: ordering equipment, sending merch packages, software setup, purchasing and tracking, introduce new team members to the existing team and culture
  • Assume Management of the Social and OHS committees to aid in supporting a healthy and engaged team

 

In your first 3 months

  • Manage budgets and purchasing with staff and the finance team
  • Manage Onboarding of new hires
  • Source, coordinate distribution and manage team merchandise
  • Identify and mitigate points of friction in day to day business procedures 
  • Manage our events (virtual and in person). You’ll be responsible for supporting and coordinating events both great and small (lunches, parties, team off-sites, etc). This will include our next ALL company Summit (in September). 
  • Work with managers to create job descriptions and screen resumes 
  • Understand and uphold our company culture and the values of our organization! 

 

Within your first year...

  • Own Onboarding: the key point of contact and responsible for onboarding of all new staff
  • Be responsible for team engagement initiatives including: arranging, scheduling and hosting weekly team meetings, organizing semi-annual team summits, creating ongoing feedback surveys and eNPS reporting and analysis, 
  • Be in charge of Kano recruitment (the key point of contact for managers, as well as screen resumes, and run initial interviews with applicants etc.)
  • Manage payroll and related systems: benefits and leave management, expenses and reimbursements, Worksafe Reporting
  • Offer Performance Management support in the following areas: scheduling PR’s, creating manager training materials, calibration, and creating Performance Improvement Plans

 

Qualifications: 

Need to Have:

  • Organizational skills and MAJOR attention to detail
  • 3+ years of experience in either office management, administration, or customer service
  • Proven or expressed interest in HR
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal)
  • proficiency in google suite (or similar applications) -- especially in google sheets (or excel)
  • Familiar with the following (or similar) software:  slack, google suite, 

It'd be a big plus if you have:

  • Previous experience in a startup environment
  • Experience with ensuring compliance around licensing laws, health and safety, and other statutory regulations
  • Previous experience in HR or People Operations.
  • Experience using any or all of the following software: lattice, bamboohr, greenhouse



Salary Range for this Position = $55,000.00 - $75,000.00

 

Most candidates should anticipate a starting salary up to the midpoint of the specified range. The top percentile of the salary range is reserved for exceptional candidates with unique qualifications or experience, and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
