Overview
As a Product Design Director, you will shape and lead all aspects of product design within our Commercial product area. You will be responsible for the free-to-paid customer journey and partner with product and engineering peers to ensure that teams and individuals are empowered to build the best products.
You will oversee each stage of the design process, always focusing on user and business needs. You will rely heavily on qualitative and quantitative data to make informed decisions.
Together with the Engineering Director and Product Director, the Product Design Director is part of the Product Area Leadership. This trio partnership is responsible for strategic direction, teams and staffing, ways of working, processes and artefacts, impact, and results for the product area.
Areas of responsibility
Strategic Leadership
- Define and execute a vision for product design within the Commercial area.
- Partner with Product Management and Engineering area leadership to define product direction, strategy, and objectives to reach business outcomes.
- Own the end-to-end customer experience, focusing on ease of use and value creation to promote a steady increase in overall product adoption, conversion, engagement, retention, and expansion.
- Ensure the strategic direction is tangible and well articulated, achieving a state-of-the-art user experience.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product management, sales, and marketing, to align design goals with overall business objectives.
- Orchestrate the customer journey that drives the Free-to-Paid journey and supports our Product-Led Growth (PLG) and Product-Led Sales (PLS) strategies.
People Leadership
- Coach individual Product Designers on craft-specific development and ability to successfully partner with other crafts in Product team trios.
- Lead and inspire a team of product designers to develop user-centered experiences that drive growth, retention, and engagement.
- Part of hiring product designers and working with the design leadership team to maintain and evolve the professional development framework.
Craft Leadership
- Part of Design Leadership - with the mission to provide a leading Designer Experience and nurture a culture of craft excellence at Mentimeter.
- Overall design vision and strategic design initiatives on a global, cross-area level in partnership with the Design Leadership team.
- Honing best practices and ensuring that the Design community and culture at Mentimeter are thriving
- Provide design leadership using your experience with analytics, research, design methodologies and product launches to drive best practices, scalable processes and holistic design approaches.
So, who are you?
- 5+ years of experience as a design leader, with proven experience in design leadership roles, with a track record of successfully managing and mentoring design teams.
- Experience managing and scaling design and product teams in fast-paced, hyper-growth environments.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to guide teams through complex challenges.
- A craft expert who can be a thoughtful design partner when needed.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions clearly and advocate for the user experience to stakeholders at all levels.
- Deep expertise in product design, particularly in growth-focused environments, with an understanding of product-led growth (PLG) and product-led sales (PLS) strategies.
