What are we all about?

We are a team of builders and researchers on a mission to empower enterprises and developers worldwide to access and build on decentralized systems.

Our expertise covers several domains: Ethereum and Starknet protocol engineering, layer-2, cryptography research, protocol research, decentralized finance (DeFi), security auditing, formal verification, real-time monitoring, smart contract development, and dapps and enterprise engineering.

Working to solve some of the most challenging problems in the blockchain space, we frequently collaborate with, such as Ethereum Foundation, Starknet Foundation, Gnosis Chain, Flashbots, Forta Protocol, Lido, EigenLayer, Open Zeppelin, RISCZero, Aleph Zero, and many more.

Today, there are nearly 200 of us working remotely from over 45+ countries.

Are you the one?

The ideal candidate is an engineer with strong low-level programming and analytical skills, experienced in implementing and optimizing cryptographic primitives. Candidates should be able to work in a distributed research team, collaborating with researchers and other engineers to create proofs-of-concept of cutting-edge blockchain and cryptography protocols. We appreciate candidates who are not afraid of voicing their opinions and motivate them to ask for explanations of concepts they are not familiar with.

Responsibilities:

As a research engineer, you will participate in projects such as:

  • Implementing and optimizing cryptographic primitives (zk, FHE, etc.)
  • Implementing novel optimizations for zk-systems.
  • Building solutions for decentralized identity, verifiable credentials, and reputation systems.
  • Building on-chain protocols.

Skills:

  • We look for candidates with hands-on engineering experience in any of the following:
  • Zero-knowledge proofs, including
    • zk-proof systems — transparent and non-transparent.
    • zkDSLs such as Cairo, Noir, o1js.
    • Folding schemes.
  • Fully homomorphic encryption
  • Multi-party computation
  • Programming in Rust

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge about Solidity.
  • Background in cryptography or a related mathematical field.

This is a fully remote role, with flexibility to work on a diverse range of projects, and opportunities to attend leading global conferences in the field. Some of Nethermind Research’s past work includes:

- Fiat-Shamir Security of FRI and Related SNARKs: https://eprint.iacr.org/2023/1071

- A DEX design with user privacy: https://eprint.iacr.org/2023/1868

Perks and benefits:

  • Equity
  • Fully remote
  • Flexible working hours
