Refeyn is developing mass photometry; a new technology for the analysis of biomolecules that measures the mass of single molecules with light. Refeyn spun out the University of Oxford’s Department of Chemistry in 2018 and established Refeyn Inc as US subsidiary in 2019. Currently headquartered in Portland (OR) and has a Demo & Applications lab in Boston. The Refeyn group is uniquely positioned for rapid growth worldwide.


We are looking for an enthusiastic Service and Support Engineer to join Refeyn Inc as a member of the Service and Support team to help support and troubleshooting for our customers. Our service team provides support for technical issues faced by the customer both on-site and in-house and we pride ourselves on addressing concerns in an efficient and comprehensive way.

The successful candidate for this role will have a relevant degree (physics/engineering), experience with sensitive scientific equipment, strong attention to detail and an eagerness to learn more about mass photometry. The role requires up to 50% US/west coast travel. 


Technical service and support of Mass Photometer instruments:

  • Conduct technical service of Mass Photometers both in house and on customer sites
  • Engage in preventative maintenance of installed Mass Photometers
  • Assist with installation of new products where required
  • Take responsibility for data and record keeping for installed instruments
  • Help to improve existing service procedures and processes
  • Participate in service inventory management
  • Work with Manufacturing team to ensure instruments are delivered to the customer on time, as required

The candidate:

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (Physics, Engineering etc)

Required experience:

  • Working in a laboratory requiring personal protective equipment (PPE) and the handling of sensitive scientific equipment
  • Experience troubleshooting complex scientific equipment
  • Experience with electronic assemblies and/or optical systems

Desirable experience:

  • Experience working with scientific instrumentation software troubleshooting
  • Experience with liquid handling robots
  • Experimental experience with proteins, DNA or other biomolecules
  • Experience with handling optics

  • Based in Portland, OR USA but up to 50% travel will be required
