Speechmatics is a world-leading expert in speech technology. Our mission has always been to “Understand Every Voice,” meaning that we aim to make voice technology inclusive and accessible to everyone in the world, regardless of demographic, age, gender, accent, dialect, or location. This is an ambitious goal, and to achieve it, we’re continuously innovating and experimenting, all while providing value to our diverse range of current customers.

This role sits on a team that is central to Speechmatics’ products, owning and architecting the systems that connect our AI transcription models together in an efficient, resilient way. In this role, you’ll collaborate regularly with talented peers of diverse skillsets across our other engineering teams.

No prior knowledge of audio, speech, or machine learning is necessary for this role – if you’re passionate about collaborating with others to build great tech, we’d like to hear from you!

Your Opportunity:

  • Be an integral part of the team! We’re a tight-knit group, and the tech we own is interconnected with many other teams, so you'll have a huge opportunity to positively influence engineering practices and our overall product.
  • Own initiatives to continuously improve the system architecture, performance, stability, and feature set of our product. We already have best-in-class technology, and we’re always innovating and further breaking boundaries.
  • Work with a variety of tools and technologies, and collaborate with a team of talented engineers, to solve complex problems. There are endless learning opportunities, and we have regular syncs to share ideas.
  • Make a significant difference to our customers by ensuring that our best-in-class speech recognition technology always runs quickly and stably in a variety of real-life scenarios.
  • Shape our team culture: join in knowledge sharing across engineering teams, improve technical documentation, mentor other engineers, and encourage best engineering practices.

Why you’re made for this role:

  • You’re a collaborative team player. Our team works closely with several other teams, and we proactively reach out to each other to solve complex problems.
  • You love to learn, and you have an open mind to new ideas. You enjoy continuously growing your own abilities, as well as helping others around you improve, too.
  • You’re pragmatic, and able to balance “doing things right” with “doing things quickly,” depending on the context. You can navigate short-term changes in priorities as we work towards longer-term goals.
  • You’re passionate about creating high quality software and enjoy the exploratory process of improving performance, stability, and maintainability of the tech you work with, no matter where a problem lies.
  • You feel comfortable developing software in production in C++ and Python, and you’re interested or experienced in working with some of the other technologies we use: Docker, Kubernetes, Datadog, Gitlab, Go, developing in a Linux environment.

What we can offer you:

Speechmatics is a collective team of ambitious, problem solvers and thought-leaders paving the way for inclusion in speech recognition technology 🗣🎙.

Race & Ethnicity Definitions

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
