Who we are supporting
The NATO Communication and Information Agency (NCIA) is responsible for providing secure and effective communications and information technology (IT) services to NATO's member countries and its partners. The agency was established in 2012 and is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.
The NCIA provides a wide range of services, including:
- Cyber Security: The NCIA provides advanced cybersecurity solutions to protect NATO's communication networks and information systems against cyber threats.
- Command and Control Systems: The NCIA develops and maintains the systems used by NATO's military commanders to plan and execute operations.
- Satellite Communications: The NCIA provides satellite communications services to enable secure and reliable communications between NATO forces.
- Electronic Warfare: The NCIA provides electronic warfare services to support NATO's mission to detect, deny, and defeat threats to its communication networks.
- Information Management: The NCIA manages NATO's information technology infrastructure, including its databases, applications, and servers.
Overall, the NCIA plays a critical role in ensuring the security and effectiveness of NATO's communication and information technology capabilities.
The program
Assistance and Advisory Service (AAS)
The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) is NATO’s principal C3 capability deliverer and CIS service provider. It provides, maintains and defends the NATO enterprise-wide information technology infrastructure to enable Allies to consult together under Article IV, and, when required, stand together in the face of attack under Article V.
To provide these critical services, in the modern evolving dynamic environment the NCI Agency needs to build and maintain high performance-engaged workforce. The NCI Agency workforce strategically consists of three major categorise's: NATO International Civilians (NIC)'s, Military (Mil), and Interim Workforce Consultants (IWC)'s. The IWCs are a critical part of the overall NCI Agency workforce and make up approximately 15 percent of the total workforce.
Role Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Section Head, they will perform duties such as the following:
- Installs, operates and maintains assigned ICT Platforms (IS) and stays abreast of latest developments in these areas;
- Supports the integrity of assigned ICT Platforms (IS), supports on IT Service Continuity Management (ITSCM), Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans;
- Maintains liaison with other CSU internal units, Business Areas / Service Centres and other technical organisations;
- Provides support related to local CIS Service provision during the execution phase;
- Documents the design and configuration of assigned ICT Platforms (IS) and the required operating procedures;
- Implements procedures, tools and techniques for monitoring and managing the performance of ICT Platforms (IS) and provides reports as required;
- Monitors and reports the capacity of the assigned ICT Platforms (IS);
- Assists with and implements assigned project work packages;
- Assists Incident Manager in handling incidents and tasks related to local incident dispatching, including reporting;
- Monitors, diagnoses and troubleshoots the systems and services that are provided for the event in accordance with the customers Information Exchange Requirements (IERs);
- Assists with design, implementation and execution of the ever changing IS requirements from the customer;
- Trains military staff and augmenters during the execution phases of events ensuring that all ICT services are delivered to the customer;
- Stays abreast of developments relevant to his/her area of responsibility;
- Deputizes for higher grade staff;
- Performs other duties as may be required
Essential Skills and Experience
- General background in maintenance of Communications and Information Systems (CIS) including pertinent training and practical experience;
- Proven prior experience and a good knowledge of working with bespoke applications or national Community-of-Interest (CoI) services within an engineering environment;
- Demonstrable evidence in maintaining knowledge of advances in IS technologies and Service Management;
- Experience in System Administration of common Operating Systems (OS);
- Knowledge of Windows Active Directory (AD) services and Group Policies;
- Experience in IT systems virtualization, VMware infrastructure support (ESXi/vSphere);
- Broad and sound technical knowledge and experience in distributed Information Systems as they are applied to the modern military management information and Command and Control Information Systems (C2IS)
Education
- Higher vocational training in a relevant discipline (such as, a technical subject with substantial Information Technology (IT)) with 2 years post-related experience;
- Or a secondary educational qualification with 4 years postrelated experience;

- Some travel to other NATO sites may be required
Security Clearance
- Valid National or NATO Secret personal security clearance
