About us

The Oakland Group is a fast growing, modern consulting company who operate at the intersection of people, process and technology. As data specialists, we work across the full data ecosystem including: Strategy & Governance, Architecture, Engineering and Advanced Analytics.

We’re on a mission to create the best data consultancy in the UK, where our brilliant people can create the ingenious solutions that are powering our growth.

Founded in 1986 out of our Leeds HQ, we work with a wonderful range of clients ranging from FTSE 100 Telcos to Series-A funded start-ups, regularly punching above our weight due to our obsession with quality and client satisfaction.

Oakland has been named one of the Top Small Businesses and Top Consultancies to work for in the UK. We’re committed to ensuring our employees are given opportunities to grow both personally and professionally and are rewarded for their incredible work.

Our obsession with quality and client satisfaction had led to rapid growth in the last year and we work with some of the UK’s biggest and best-known brands along with a number of newer tech disruptors.

Due to exponential growth over the past 18 months, we have a number of opportunities across each of our talented and passionate teams. We’re still small enough for everyone’s voice to be heard whilst working with some of the worlds most recognised companies.

The role

We are looking for a Principal Consultant who has experience of managing complex consulting sales cycles in the data & technology Industry.  A key part of the role is to develop and nurture new and existing client relationships to position Oakland as their Data Specialist partner of choice.

You'll work closely with our Commercial and Business Development Directors to take ownership of qualified leads, developed by our marketing function, through to project initiation.

This role would suite an individual who has experience of Data Consultancy, who is looking for an opportunity to make a genuine impact within a small but growing consultancy.

As well as a background in consultancy, we’re looking for someone with an understanding of the modern Data ecosystem, and how it can be leveraged to deliver value across our core service offerings. Areas of knowledge include: Data Strategy, Data Governance, Data Platforms and Analytics, as well as Cloud Data Services, Security, and DevOps.

Success in this role will focus on three key components:

  • Winning new clients and transitioning into early-stage delivery
  • Growth of strategic client accounts
  • Developing strategic partnerships to enhance our business development and sales capability

The Person

Dealing with ambiguity is a critical part of the job, as well as the ability to context switch between sales development and project delivery, and different prospects and clients.  You will be extremely comfortable working in a small and rapidly growing team, with a tech start-up mentality.

This is a client-facing role.  You’ll be experienced and comfortable building senior client relationships, managing teams and managing commercial technicalities. The role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast paced, ever changing environments. This is also a great opportunity to help influence and grow the next iteration of our marketing and sales function.

You’ll have a genuine interest in technology and some understanding of the end-to-end data space, including Strategy, Governance, Cloud and Platforms. Being able to build strong relationships and work collaboratively is a must.

Our clients range from PE backed start-ups to FTSE 100 institutions, so experience working across multiple industries would be advantageous.

The skills

The ideal candidate will be able to:

  • Build trusting and enduring relationships with prospects and clients
  • Establish credibility in the Oakland service offering
  • Gather requirements and synthesise emerging needs
  • Develop commercial proposals and bid documents, whilst interfacing with resource planning and delivery processes
  • Lead client pitches and manage iterations
  • Oversee the necessary due diligence and contract negotiations
  • Win work and coordinate early stage project mobilisation into delivery
  • Develop account strategies to ensure medium and long-term engagements

Oakland is an equal opportunities employer, committed to developing, maintaining and supporting a diverse workforce. We welcome applications from anyone who believes they fit the essential requirements of the job advertised.
