Role Summary 

We are seeking a Lead BI Developer on a 12 month contract to join our team, drive a shift in data culture, and help us to transition the way we enable self-serve reporting and BI in the business. This role will focus predominantly on the transition and set up of retail data sets within Snowflake, driven by the reporting we wish to deliver. The ideal candidate will have experience  of the full data lifecycle, including ETL processes, connecting to APIs, high-speed data cleansing, and rigorous testing and validation to ensure data integrity and quality.

Alongside this, the candidate should have experience driving data culture within an organisation; there is a need to drive the awareness of data governance, stewardship and ownership across the business units who utilise the various systems we collectively use. This role involves establishing a centre of excellence within the central digital & technology team, but also driving a community of a data self-service across the business.

Prior experience in the financial services sector would be advantageous, as much of the data you will be working with is within this area. An affinity with retail investment products, classic sales CRM metrics and forecasting are key to this role. Furthermore, this individual will work closely with existing senior engineers and more junior analysts, collaborating or mentoring where applicable.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Audit and analyse reporting needs within the Retail department, utilising data from Salesforce, Zoom and HubSpot
  • Establish key data sets within Snowflake to enable reporting and exploration using AI powered natural language tools
  • Work with the data engineering team to ensure alignment on architecture and efficient data ingestion
  • Collaborate with key system analysts/admins to better instil governance best practice
  • Relaunch BI to retail initially, and then the further business units in the company
  • Support and mentor team members in best practices for reporting enabling data sets and visualisation choices
  • Establishing a reporting backlog and BAU workstream for producing foundational reporting across service operational and sales teams

Knowledge and Experience 

  • Extensive experience with the full data lifecycle, including data collection, ETL processes, cleansing, testing, validation & reporting.
  • Ideal candidate MUST have knowledge of either/OR Tableau and ThoughtSpot BI tools.
  • A solid understanding of how data needs to be optimally tabulated to enable reporting
  • Knowledge of how new AI branches within BI tools can be leveraged, and how we need adapt what we do to take advantage of them
  • Experience in telling stories with data – extracting what users what to know and see, when they don’t necessarily know themselves
  • Strong engineering skills in Python for data engineering tasks, automation, and scripting
  • Proficient with data movement tools and techniques, ensuring efficient data integration and transformation across systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake
  • Familiarity with data governance principles, data quality standards, and best practices in ETL and data warehousing.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail, ensuring data accuracy and reliability
