At Vay, we’re revolutionizing mobility with remote driving technology, and as a Senior or Principal Mobile Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of delivering this innovation straight into users hands.

This is not just another mobile engineering role—you’ll be solving complex challenges at the intersection of advanced technology and traditional mobility. From crafting an intuitive React Native experience to extending our backend-for-frontend API, your work will directly shape how customers interact with our platform—scaling our business and redefining urban transportation.

Collaboration is key. You’ll partner with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and experts across electrical engineering, data engineering, and beyond to build solutions that drive real impact at a company-wide level.

What you'll be driving:

  • Design & Develop – Build and enhance our React Native mobile application, ensuring a high-performance, scalable, and reliable user experience. Utilize CI/CD pipelines to enable seamless, high-quality releases.
  • API & Backend Integration – Extend and optimize our backend-for-frontend API, developing new endpoints and integrating backend & third-party services to enrich the mobile experience.
  • Advanced Mobile Features – Implement and optimize location services, Bluetooth integrations, and real-time backend communication to ensure a seamless, interactive experience.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration – Partner with backend engineers, product managers, and designers to build end-to-end solutions that drive impact for both customers and the business.
  • Product & UX Alignment – Shape the product strategy by refining goals, clarifying requirements, and enhancing UX, playing a key role in sprint and quarterly planning.
  • Quality & Performance Ownership – Maintain smooth app performance through test automation, continuous monitoring, and proactive optimization, ensuring a world-class user experience.

What are we looking for: 

  • Mobile Development Expertise – 6+ years of professional experience building high-quality mobile applications. Strong cross-platform development skills in React Native are a major plus.
  • API Development & Integration – Hands-on experience with backend-for-frontend (BFF) API patterns or server-side development, ideally using Node.js and TypeScript.
  • Collaboration & Communication – Proven ability to work cross-functionally with backend engineers, product managers, and designers to create seamless, impactful user experiences.
  • Quality & Automation Focus – Experience with mobile test automation frameworks (e.g., Jest, Detox) and a strong commitment to continuous testing and monitoring.
  • User-Centric Mindset – Passion for delivering intuitive, high-quality mobile experiences, with a strong understanding of UX principles and usability best practices.
  • Educational Background – Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience in mobile development).
  • Performance & Monitoring – Deep expertise in mobile application monitoring, performance optimization, and debugging best practices.

Nice to Have:

  • Location-Based UX – Experience building map-based interfaces with real-time data overlays and interactive elements.
  • Bluetooth Integration – Familiarity with Bluetooth protocols for seamless hardware-device communication.
  • Real-Time Interactions – Hands-on experience developing real-time features using WebSockets or similar protocols for responsive, interactive applications.
  • CI/CD for Mobile – Experience with continuous integration and deployment pipelines optimized for mobile applications.
