The Role
As a Technical Team Leader Software Engineering (f/m/d) you will be responsible for leading a team of 5 developers, both from a technical perspective as well as line management. You will work cross-functionally with our Engineering, Product Management, Product Design, and Data Teams, as well as our leadership team. The role allows you to have a huge impact on our Technology estate as we begin to scale this out. Additionally, you will work with bright and driven engineers who are keen to learn and need your guidance as they build on their own technical and soft skills.
We are looking for someone who is able to work at least 2 days a week from our Berlin office.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead technical conversations, actively challenging and mentoring your team to build scalable solutions that meet best practices and business needs.
- Act as a trusted technical reference, recommending enhancements that support organizational growth and product expansion.
- Engage in design reviews, fostering constructive feedback to uphold high standards in design and development.
- Produce high-quality solutions, setting a standard for your team and ensuring alignment with best practices and project objectives.
- Manage team pace to drive success and maintain urgency, while protecting against burnout and prioritizing well-being.
- Mentor team members and collaborate closely with Product, Data, Engineering, and QA to translate business requirements into actionable technical goals.
What you will bring to the table
- Experience & Leadership: 8+ years in software development on complex, critical projects, with proven experience as a hands-on Team Lead.
- People Management: Proven experience in leading and nurturing teams through regular 1:1s, supporting hiring processes, conducting performance reviews, and actively supporting career growth and development. You are skilled in creating a supportive environment that encourages individual strengths and aligns personal and team goals.
- Technical Expertise: Proficient in Javascript, TypeScript, NodeJS, MongoDB, React, and third-party integrations; familiarity with GCP and Kubernetes is a plus. Strong foundation in clean coding principles, object-oriented design patterns, scalable distributed systems, and cloud computing. You could be coding anywhere from 50-70% in this role depending on the need.
- Software Development Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the software development lifecycle for web, client-server, and cloud systems, with experience in Agile methodologies.
- Soft Skills & Mindset: Analytical and problem-solving abilities; skilled at encouraging team spirit and motivating others, especially in high-stress situations.
