The Role  

YouGov is focused on accelerating its expansion in the Asia Pacific region, with Australia emerging as the primary revenue driver in the last five years. This role offers the opportunity to lead Australia through its next growth phase within YouGov's robust business platform, catering to both local and international clients in need of research solutions. Leveraging flagship products like BrandIndex and Profiles, the emphasis is on product-driven growth supported by a highly regarded online panel established over a decade ago.

Recognising further growth potential in the Australian and New Zealand markets, we seek a leader with a strong commercial focus to develop the business in line with our entrepreneurial culture. Key responsibilities include elevating YouGov's profile in the Australian market by leveraging research capabilities and unique selling points to unlock new business opportunities.

Reporting to the APAC CEO in Sydney, this role involves leading an experienced team across Australia and collaborating closely with our APAC regional leadership and functional counterparts. With a track record of steady growth over the past 5 years and ambitious projections for the future, this position offers the chance to lead all aspects of the business, expand research solutions, broaden the client base, increase market presence, challenge the status quo, and explore new sectors. 

What will I be delivering?

The successful candidate will work with the APAC regional management team to implement YouGov’s global growth strategy within the unique context of the APAC region. You will lead an experienced management team in Australia to uphold and continuously elevate the visibility, credibility and reputation of the Australian business and deliver ambitious growth.

You will take the lead in identifying and growing key target sectors and key clients to develop strong business relationships in Australia, as well New Zealand as an identified potential growth market. Broad responsibility and authority will be given to you for the local business, and you will take the initiative in building the business’ performance in both short and long-term.    

As the Australia General Manager (GM), you will have direct management responsibility for all the country-specific aspects of the business including new business teams, research & client services teams and partnerships. You will manage your own P&L.

What do I need to bring with me?

Demonstrated knowledge and experience  

  • We seek a business innovator who can leverage their client-facing expertise and distinctive approach to craft a winning strategy for YouGov Australia, demonstrating a pragmatic, hands-on approach to driving success.
  • A strong local network is advantageous, along with experience in one or more of our core sectors, such as Financial Services, Media/Advertising/PR Agencies, Public & Polling, Sports, Travel & Entertainment, QSR, FMCG & Retail.
  • The ideal candidate will bring a track record of managing successful, sales-focused business units in market research or marketing services, possessing a solid grasp of online methodologies. Experience in environments emphasising creativity, innovation, business development, managing complexity and providing leadership will be valued.
  • A comprehensive understanding of ethical, legal and regulatory requirements relevant to operating a data and insights business in the Australian market is essential.
  • Preferably with experience in post-acquisition or merger reformation, you should excel as a people leader, capable of elevating high-performing individuals and teams to new heights of success.

 Technical skills and qualifications  

  • Irrespective of your career trajectory, the ideal candidate will showcase solid business development skills with a proven track record of achievements, alongside adept strategic planning capabilities.
  • The successful candidate should possess a Master's Degree or equivalent life experience and must exhibit native-level fluency in English, coupled with eligibility to work in Australia.

  • We seek a GM who possesses robust leadership abilities, sales experience and a distinct entrepreneurial mindset, evidenced by strong execution skills.
  • Effective communication skills at the C-level are imperative, coupled with innate authority, charisma and credibility. You must adeptly navigate complex challenges and provide concise direction to the organisation.
