The YouGov Signal team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team that builds and maintains our social listening capabilities.
We have a focus on the streaming media industry where we measure the engagement of top movies and TV shows on streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Max, and others. Our data and analysis are used by customers to make decisions like which titles should be renewed or released into additional regions or which actors should be associated with new shows. You will be joining a talented and agile team, and you will see your work used by some of the biggest players in the content creation and streaming industry.
In addition to working in an interesting space, you will be working with advanced technologies and architectures that are needed to collect and process all this data.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Database architecture and optimization for very large database implementations (postgres) with billions of rows of data
- Creating data aggregation and summary implementations to support customer dashboards
- Creating highly performant API endpoints (python) that present that data to the front-end webapp for customer access
- Design and implement monitoring and alerting systems around the data availability and quality to ensure that we are providing our customers with the best data possible
- Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
- Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
- Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.
- Having wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing the web crawlers that are used to collect data from multiple public websites, developer apis, and third party data providers
- Implement various data models developed by the data science team including language processing (sentiment, summary, frequency analysis), clustering (data driven comps, rankers), and predictive modeling (viewership forecasting)
Key Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience of working with very large data sets with computationally intensive operations that need to occur in near real time.
- Proven experience of using SQL architecture, tuning, and performance management.
- Proven experience of working with web API development using Python.
- Proficient in web application monitoring, alerting, and performance tuning.
- Proficient in agile development methodologies including branch management and release pipelines.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
- Comfortable working in a fully remote environment.
- Experience in learning and working with a complex legacy codebase.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Familiar with data science concepts and data analytics.
- Familiar with the entertainment industry including streaming services, tv shows, and movies.
- Previous work experience in an entertainment or media industry.
- Experience or interest in data science and building/developing the above mentioned models
- Front-end JavaScript development experience
- AWS dev-ops experience
