About the role

We are seeking a skilled Disaster Recovery Lead to take ownership of the current large, complex on-prem and cloud based environments. Brining about changes and introducing best practise. Working with in a very experienced international IT Operations team there will be a lot of scope to learn as well as sharing your own experience.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in disaster recovery and backup management and be able to advise, document and expand on what’s already there as well as the opportunity to work on a new AWS environment. You will work closely with IT Operations Engineers to make changes and the IT Security team to ensure full compliance.

You will have a strong background in backups on VMware especially using Veeam product set, experience with AWS technologies, especially AWS Backups, S3 storage, EC2 and EKS nodes.  Knowledge of HPS Nimble and PURE storage arrays required as well as a good grounding in Linux and Windows administration and testing of restored backups.

What you will do:

  • Disaster Recovery Planning & Execution:
    • Develop, implement, and maintain disaster recovery plans in line with company policies and industry best practices. Including ISO27001 and SOC1/2
    • Collaborate with IT Operations team to design and configure backup and restore solutions for VMware environments, using Veeam and AWS Backup.
    • Ensure disaster recovery solutions integrate effectively with Nimble Storage arrays and AWS S3 for both on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure.
    • Regularly document and update  disaster recovery strategies to align with business goals and technological changes.
  • Backup & Restore Management:
    • Design and manage backup strategies, ensuring they meet recovery point objectives (RPO) and recovery time objectives (RTO).
    • Configure and maintain backup solutions using Veeam, ensuring compatibility with VMware environments and integration with AWS S3 for offsite storage.
    • Oversee the secure transfer and storage of backup data in AWS S3, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company data protection policies.
  • Testing & Validation:
    • Conduct regular disaster recovery and restore tests to validate the effectiveness and readiness of backup solutions.
    • Perform restore tests using VMware and AWS Backup to ensure data can be recovered successfully in various disaster scenarios.
    • Document and report on the results of disaster recovery tests, identifying any areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Documentation & Compliance:
    • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for all disaster recovery and backup processes, including configuration details, testing procedures, and incident response plans.
    • Ensure all documentation adheres to company policies and regulatory requirements.
    • Collaborate with compliance and security teams to ensure disaster recovery practices meet industry standards and audit requirements.
  • Collaboration & Support:
    • Work closely with IT Operations , IT Security, and SRE teams to align disaster recovery strategies with overall IT and business goals.
    • Provide technical expertise and guidance to team members on VMware, Veeam, AWS S3, and Nimble Storage arrays.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for disaster recovery issues, leading the response and recovery efforts during incidents.

What you will bring:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience:
    • Proven experience in IT infrastructure, with a focus on disaster recovery and business continuity.
    • Proven experience with VMware, Veeam, AWS S3, and Nimble Storage arrays in a disaster recovery context.
    • Strong understanding of backup and restore processes, including designing, implementing, and testing disaster recovery solutions.
  • Skills:
    • Expertise in VMware vSphere and vCenter for managing virtualized environments.
    • Advanced knowledge of Veeam Backup & Replication, including backup job configuration, restore operations, and integration with cloud storage.
    • Proficiency in managing AWS S3 storage, including security, versioning, and lifecycle policies.
    • Experience with Nimble Storage arrays, including configuration, management, and integration with backup solutions.
    • Strong documentation skills, with experience creating detailed disaster recovery plans and procedural documentation.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure during disaster recovery scenarios.
    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders globally.
