YouGov has an exciting opportunity open for a Lead Data Scientist to come and work for a Global Online Research Company, offering insight into what the world thinks.
This role is involved in large-scale statistical analysis projects related to internal and external data, especially our key data products: BrandIndex and Profiles. As Lead Data Scientist, you would be responsible for the development and evaluation of methodological enhancements for our data products, and the communication of those sets of analysis through white papers, ad hoc reports, and in-person presentations.
About the team
We develop models and predictions using a combination of surveys, voter databases, census microdata, behavioral tracking and other sources. We handle the most difficult data problems at our company, including massive datasets, missing data, self-selection, measurement error, fraud detection, attrition, and many more.
What you will be doing:
- Implement and manage large-scale statistical programming projects, including large scale multiple imputation and data augmentation using machine learning and AI techniques
- Implementation and management of large-scale data processing projects
- Coordinate with senior stakeholders to understand project requirements
- Exercise considerable creativity, foresight, and judgment while working independently on complex research projects – including methods selection, techniques, and evaluation criteria.
- Author white papers, prepare ad hoc reports, and deliver in-person presentations to communicate results.
- Convey complex information and persuade several diverse stakeholders/audience across multiple cultures.
- Work collaboratively with the existing data science team.
What you need to bring to this role:
- Strong programming skills and be prepared to contribute independently on tough research problems
- Expert knowledge of (and ability to learn) a variety of statistical methods – regression, causal inference, multilevel regression models, machine learning, MRP, LLMs
- Experience performing statistical analyses on large datasets.
- Expert programmer in R (tidyverse style), and exposure to Python, C/C++
- Experience with relevant packages such as arrow, tidyverse, pandas, numpy, sklearn, xgboost
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP
- Experience with git, github/gitlab.
- Familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Redshift, Snowflake
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration, such as Airflow, Prefect
- Skilled at communicating results and research methodology though reports (R Markdown/Quarto, Shiny, data visualization with ggplot, seaborn)
It would be great if you had:
- PhD or equivalent in computer science, statistics, quantitative social science, or other relevant scientific area
