We are looking for a talented Research Manager for the Data Services UK, International team. This key role will draw on a mix of leadership, quantitative research, commercial/product management and people-management skills. You will design, run and deliver a wide range of large and high-profile International Omnibus and Field & Tab projects, on a variety of topics, delegating tasks to more junior researchers where needed and working with senior personnel on key accounts. You will also have the opportunity to work on both domestic and specialist studies, including B2B, as well as getting involved with projects that require added insight.
Your product management and commercial skills will assist you in working alongside product leaders in the creation, maintenance, and delivery of research products within our International Omnibus and Field & Tab offering. You will continually work on improving processes and products, providing training on those internally where necessary – ensuring our commercial teams are equipped to start conversations (with you assisting them on the detail) and teams of researchers are ready to service winning projects.
This role relies on excellent communication skills; you’ll be working with other YouGov teams (Insight, Commercial and operations), as well as directly with some of YouGov UK’s biggest clients to design and deliver research which hits their briefs and is clear, unbiased and stands up to scrutiny (thanks to YouGov’s amazing reputation for accuracy and media presence). This role may also lead to mentoring opportunities and direct management of researchers in the future. Your skills in these areas will be crucial in setting individuals up for success.
Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll do (not all of it, just the important stuff):
- Being a research expert across our International Omnibus and Field & Tab offering
- Project managing, or contributing towards, large and high-profile quantitative research projects from inception through to delivery. This will include but not be limited to:
- Supporting our commercial teams on winning new opportunities (e.g. answering queries on feasibility, helping with costs, assisting with client calls or pitches etc.)
- Working with our panel team to offer the most appropriate solutions to all clients. You will help look into feasibility and costs for briefs, seeking help from other departments where necessary
- Working directly with clients to design, or refine, questionnaires to ensure they are in line with their objectives and demonstrate best research practice
- Monitoring fieldwork in a large number of countries (both on and off panel) and swiftly resolving any issues that arise
- Delivering results to clients and communicating effectively what the research shows, including taking clients through Crunch, our powerful online data tool
- Reviewing materials created by clients (e.g. press releases, reports etc.) to ensure the results are accurately reported and stand up to external scrutiny
- Supporting other researchers with their projects (e.g. advising on project set-up, quality checking questionnaires, resolving any issues etc.)
- Supporting the International Director and Associate Director on maintaining and growing our International Omnibus and Field & Tab product offering, while equipping our commercial teams and researchers with the knowledge needed to successfully sell and deliver these projects
- Growing any direct and indirect reports through line management, mentoring and coaching
These are the essentials you’ll need to get an interview:
- A track record of high-quality quantitative research design and delivery, running multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish
- Have experience of running large scale international projects, adept at working with panel providers and navigating the intricacies of international research
- Ability to find creative and innovative solutions for complex and varied problems
- Strong commercial acumen with a keen interest in business development
- Excellent client focus and handling skills
- Strong organisational and project management skills with outstanding attention to detail
- Ability to deliver results to the highest standards, meet deadlines and manage time effectively
- Be approachable and supportive, with a positive, friendly and collaborative attitude
It would be great if you had these to, but we’ll support you if you don’t:
- Experience of mentoring or line-managing
