Here’s a summary of the role:

Technical Operations (TechOps) serves as a bridge between the non-technical or less-technical parts of the business and the systems engineering teams responsible for maintaining YouGov's core technology. Our focus is on delivering solutions that enhance, standardize, and automate internal-facing workflows and processes, particularly where they interact with those systems. By combining deep domain expertise in market research with a thorough understanding of YouGov systems, TechOps improves operational efficiency and system usability across the organization.

TechOps Engineers specialize in creating scalable, innovative software solutions that streamline workflows and processes. We collaborate closely with stakeholders to design practical tools, refine workflows, and ensure seamless integration with YouGov’s systems. You will play a crucial role in delivering impactful software solutions that drive efficiency and enable stakeholders to achieve more with their technology.

Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll do (not all of it, just the important stuff):

  • Collaborate with more senior engineers to develop, support, and maintain software solutions that automate workflows and processes.
  • Work on well-defined tasks, writing clean, maintainable code supported by documentation and automated tests.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues in workflows and systems, with guidance from the team.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of YouGov’s systems and tools to better support stakeholders’ needs.
  • Participate in code reviews, learning best practices and contributing to the quality of the team’s output.
  • Communicate progress and challenges proactively to ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Follow established team processes and seek clarification when requirements or tasks are unclear.
  • Continuously develop your technical skills and understanding of the domain to take on more complex responsibilities over time.

These are the essentials you’ll need to get an interview:

Technical Skills

  • Previous experience in a similar or graduate role, or 2+ years of experience in a related domain-specific role such as Data Processing or Survey Scripting.
  • Foundational programming skills in Python, with experience using libraries such as pandas, numpy, and working with JSON.
  • Basic knowledge of software development practices, including version control (Git) and writing tests.
  • Familiarity with SQL and APIs is a plus but not essential.
  • Exposure to Agile methodologies and tools like Jira is advantageous.
  • A strong willingness to learn and apply new technical concepts to practical problems.

Behavioral Skills

  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team and with stakeholders.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving, with a readiness to ask questions and seek feedback.
  • Attention to detail, ensuring the accuracy and quality of your work.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, capable of handling tasks with supervision.
  • A mindset of growth and curiosity, with a commitment to developing your technical expertise and domain knowledge.
