The role is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with a grounding in market research who might be looking for something a little bit different. Previous experience of this type of methodology is not essential but an interest in Reputation/B2B and the world of politics, current affairs and world events is desirable.
The Reputation/B2B team specializes in researching hard-to-reach audiences such as politicians, senior businesspeople, journalists, NGOs and many others. The team works with a huge variety of clients across a range of sectors. The majority of research is of a quantitative nature but we also offer clients qualitative research, which tends to take the form of depth interviews with hard-to-reach audiences conducted by members of the team themselves
Working in YouGov’s Reputation and Business Research team, you’ll be running and working on a varied list of research projects on a whole host of topics for a wide range of clients across different sectors, plus helping senior staff on delivering research for YouGov’s top-tier accounts.
You’ll be supported by more junior researchers (across the team here in the UK and offshore) on some projects, so delegation skills are key. For role-holders who enjoy people management, this role can build towards line management.
Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll do (not all of it, just the important stuff):
- Costing, designing, running and delivering quantitative and qualitative research among hard-to-reach audiences (e.g. MPs, business leaders, journalists) for clients which span a wide variety of sectors including charities, finance, professional services, public sector and retail.
- Supporting the delivery of custom research projects for large, key strategic clients. Creating proposals, research design, analysis and reporting.
- Joining (and helping to create or lead) client & project virtual teams (both within team and across other teams as necessary) to service larger projects and clients, or to be part of a key group with a method specialism
- Partnering with commercial team members to respond to and advise on speculative enquiries, interpreting client briefs and effectively writing proposals and costing of projects
- Data analysis and reports/presentations – analysing and reporting on what the research shows, communicating this effectively to clients.
- Mentoring, developing, supporting and delegating to junior researchers to help the team deliver our clients’ research needs. This role may lead to line management of junior researchers
- Delegating and advising on research design/delivery, questionnaire scripting, coding and some reporting to more junior researchers and other colleagues overseas where applicable
- Presenting and attending client meetings (kick-off meetings, debriefs etc.) and supporting commercial teams/meetings with research expertise
- Quality checking of researcher output (designs, reports etc.), feeding training points back to managers where appropriate, deferring complex project issues to more senior team members as appropriate
- Embracing YouGov’s project quality, scripting and analytic systems – helping to promote consistency of approach across the team in systems use, identifying and suggesting process efficiencies and suggestions for good practice wherever possible.
These are the essentials you’ll need to get an interview:
- 2+ years’ relevant experience, gained at a research agency or a mix of agency and client-side
- Experienced in working on market research projects from start to finish
- Quantitative research experience essential - A track record of high-quality quantitative research design and delivery across multiple methods
- Qualitative research experience desired but not essential
- Reputation/B2B experience desirable but not essential – candidate must at least have an interest in the subject matter
- Educated up to degree level in a relevant subject
Behavioural competencies that would be great to have:
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Commercial/research acumen
- Problem solving, analytical and numerical skills
- Ability to deliver results, meet deadlines and manage time effectively
- Excellent written, oral and electronic communication skills
- Self-discipline
- Self-motivation
- Positive and proactive attitude
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
