What is the point of this role?

As a at ANS, you will be given the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects and work in a team of Linux System Administrators and DevOps engineers of varied experience levels.

You will spend your time, upgrading operating systems and software, applying security patches, building new systems and decommissioning end-of-life systems, and pro-actively monitoring and maintaining our Linux estate. 

What will I be doing?

  • Upgrading Linux operating systems and open-source software to ensure we're at the cutting edge of technology.
  • Applying security patches proactively to safeguard our systems against threats.
  • Building new systems that contribute to our robust infrastructure.
  • Decommissioning end-of-life systems to maintain a streamlined and efficient environment.
  • Monitoring and maintaining our extensive Linux estate to ensure optimal performance.
  • Resolving Incidents that have been escalated from our service desk
  • Understand the impact of technical decisions on both projects and departmental practices and take responsibility for your decisions
  • Be confident enough to admit when you don't know something and be passionate about finding solutions.
  • Be a good judge of criticality, prioritizing tasks and projects accordingly.
  • Support the definition and adoption of best practices and standards and ensure effective governance to uphold those standards.
  • Understand that "done is better than perfect" to maintain productivity and progress.
  • Help create / update supporting documentation for new and existing products.
  • Automate, automate and automate wherever possible to drive efficiencies, minimise human error and manual input.
  • Ensure security risks are considered, identified, reduced, and mitigated when designing, developing, testing, and implementing new products & services.

What will I bring to the role? 

  • Experince in a Linux System Administrator role and able to demonstrate capability.
  • Demonstrable experience of Linux troubleshooting, Operating system upgrades, Software patching and maintenance.
  • General Linux administration skills, automation, and scripting experience.
  • Practical knowledge of system architectures and networking.
  • Practical knowledge of SAN’s (Storage Area Nework)
  • Practical knowledge of LAN’s (Local Area Network)

What is needed to do the role? 

Any of the below certifications or equivalent certifications are desirable:

  • CompTIA Linux+
  • Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator (LFCS)
  • Linux Foundation Certified Engineer (LFCE)
  • Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC-1)
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
  • SUSE Certified Administrator (SCA) in Enterprise Linux
