Role overview

The Engineering Lead is responsible for managing an engineering work stream including backend and frontend developers. This includes overseeing the engineers work, designing architecture and developing code themselves. The Engineering Lead should be in close contact with the product team translating the product requirements into technical specs, supporting the technical feasibility and effort estimation, and roadmap planning. The lead should continuously insist on high standards, see the big picture and communicate with key stakeholders.

Main Mission

  • Customer Obsession: Develop and maintain the Horizons platform to create a product our customers love.
  • Team Management: Defined career progression path and goals around what teammates need to accomplish. Mentor the team members on a continuous basis and develop their skills.
  • Development & Deployment: Find the right balance between outputs and costs. Enable the team on the technical activities needed to achieve the technical goals. Constantly deliver value to the customer by providing frequent release
  • Technical Strategy: Able to define roadmap of fixing tech deb, and developing infrastructure enhancements. Supporting product feature prioritisation and effort estimations.
  • Resource: According to the product roadmap and budget, defined the needed people strategy and potential recruitment
  • Security: Manage access to code, tools, and production data according to GDPR and other security  standards

You will be a great fit for the role if you have:

Track-record

  • Have 10 years+ of relevant work experience.
  • Have worked for companies with more than 100 employees for more than 5 years.
  • Achievement: Has successfully managed a team to build a B2B SaaS with significant revenue traction.

Technical Skills

  • Backend: Develop a simple Python Rest API from scratch with a SQL DB
  • Frontend: Create a React app in typescript protected with an OIDC server
  • Infrastructure: Deploy a static website to a CDN. Able to run a docker in whatever AWS services
  • Preferred: Extensive AWS experience

Soft Skills

  • Ownership: Taking ownership of their own team and responsibilities. 
  • Great Communication: Able to communicate well, to advocate for the technical vision within the company and to align with business stakeholders
  • User Experience: Able to judge intuitive interface aesthetically design and understand customer journeys
  • Critical Thinking: Solving problems in an efficient and visionary way. Need to solve both engineering and management-related problems
  • Big Picture Thinking: looking further than the issues that you are dealing with or the project that you are working on at the moment and being able to see how the solutions you come up with and the decisions that you make are going to impact the company overall both in the short-term and long-term
  • Delegation: Develop a strong ability to not only delegate the right responsibilities and tasks to other team members but also find the right people to delegate to
  • Desire to Learn: Ready to learn new things and be open to positive and negative feedback from anybody that you work with
  • High Standards: Insisting on high standards when it comes to quality of code and infrastructure. Attention to details while keeping the overall long-term vision
  • Decision Making: Management positions require you to make important decisions. Ability to see the impact that the decisions on the team and the organization as a whole.
