We’re looking for a Director of Engineering to head up our Tech Foundation Area. An area of our product department solely consisting of engineers responsible for enabling tech work within areas such as DevOps, Platform Infrastructure, and Security. Currently, the area consists of 12 people in two teams however further technical responsibilities may be added as the company grows and requirements change.
We are a product first driven company that builds our apps in house and deploy fully in the cloud. Technologies you’ll be involved with in this role include AWS, CloudFlare, PostgreSQL, NextJs, DataDog and much more.
Who We Are Looking For:
While experience in being a manager of managers is essential, what matters most is your expertise in setting and communicating a technical strategy for the areas particular technical field and overseeing its execution. You will design and execute on a robust technical roadmap that aligns with the company and other product area objectives and is actionable for our skilled engineers. You'll also extend your influence by providing technical capabilities to other Product teams, such as CI/CD pipeline, testing capabilities, monitoring and more. In this capacity, it's important that you align our tech strategy with those of other product areas and clearly outline how your area supports the overall Product and Company goals as well as ensuring operational excellence in execution.
Although you won’t be hands-on coding, a strong background within software development, architecture, devOps, database and infrastructure is essential. You’ll be responsible for steering architectural and technical discussions, working in alignment with the CTO, VP of Engineering, Staff Engineers, other area leads and domain experts within the product department but particularly with your area’s teams.
- Technical Strategy: Develop and implement the vision and strategy for the Tech Foundation Area, contributing to the larger product and company strategy.
- Technical Execution: Align and execute on the areas initiatives with broader company goals, while ensuring operational excellence
- Area Leadership: Guide and part of the area’s leadership team
- Team Development: Support the growth of your Engineering Manager(s) and team leads
- Investment Optimization: Balance investments to benefit both the engineering experience and project deliverables.
- Vendor Management: Oversee procurement, budgeting, and negotiations with hosting and other technical providers.
- Team Growth: Oversee recruitment, retention, team health and overall staff management.
- Culture Building: Maintain an engineering culture that aligns with the broader company values.
- Operational Metrics: Identify, track, and report on key performance indicators.
