About the Role
You will be expected to perform within the Design Management function and lead the electrical side of this function for the region, in order to ensure consistency in the service levels and quality provided by various vendors and consultants etc. You shall ensure design accuracy and promote best practices and continuous improvement with clear, appropriate and timely feedback on performance via the design management process.
In managing and delivering designs, the role will require you to delivery on Yondr’s core D&C principles of ‘Less is More’ and ‘Repeatable, Dependable, Predictable.’
At Yondr, the design management team is involved end to end with all projects to ensure their successful delivery. This entails management and involvement in the early site/technical due diligence and master planning which is fundamental to ensuring quality, delivery, and evolution of Yondr’s offering to our customers is at market leader level.
Utilising their subject matter-based skills, you will be required to ensure deployment of Yondr global standards, processes, and technical governance for project delivery and to ensure all site technical development risks are fully understood and analysed. You will also be required to work with and support the global ‘product’ team around regional APAC nuances needed for projects.
You will take an active part in our strategic expansion via technical process development and implementation of Yondr’s standard design principles, working alongside our development team in leading the technical elements and continue through the design delivery stages and providing design support throughout construction to meet long term targets of Yondr’s portfolio.
Another area of focus will be to manage or assist with pre-qualification, bid and award of all design consultants, including specialist consultants. To support the delivery team, you will ensure that the design team provides detailed and accurate tender documents, and that they and you are involved in OFCI vendor and general/main contractor bids and appointment via the commercially lead processes.
As part of the larger D&C function, you will deliver a quality service and product to our clients in line with the project goals by working with the professional team and applying Yondr’s systems, procedures and culture and manage the review of the quality and completeness of the design to ascertain its ability to be built in accordance with both the cost plan, schedule, and site Health & Safety requirements.
Main Responsibilities
/ In conjunction with the Design Director APAC, liaise with global design leads across EMEA and the Americas regions to ensure design consistency across the business as far as practicable, understanding and advising on regional nuances and regional driven deviations.
/ Coordinate and collaborate with all APAC D&C team members, and other Yondr APAC and global teams.
/ Manage and assist in the RFP (Request for Proposal) processes and appointment of all design consultants for all phases of the delivery process from supporting development due diligence functions through to handover to Operations. This may be via a ‘Lead Consultant’ or via individual appointments as required to match project needs.
/ In conjunction with other design managers and the delivery/construction team, support the RFP processes and appointment of Commissioning Authority (CxA) consultants.
/ Manage & support the APAC project design review process and coordinate the process with internal stakeholders, including the coordination of the design with the requirements of Yondr Operations (YOps).
/ Provide specialist electrical support to the Design Director and others within the APAC team.
/ Evaluate and manage individual deliverables as well as overall performances of contractors, vendors, and suppliers for each individual project.
/ Be actively involved and claim ownership for compiling, approving, and checking of all key design management processes, competency, and initiatives.
/ Coordinate design releases, submissions, approvals with the delivery programme, coordinate model reviews and clash detection, ensure technical interpretation of the design and change process is communicated effectively to the project team.
/ Develop & maintain key relationships with all design consultants, general/main contractors, and suppliers/vendors and in selecting suitable partners who could strengthen Yondr's design management performance particularly in areas such as BIM, prefabrication, modularisation, Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DfMA), etc.
/ Be responsible for the monitoring and ensuring MEP related statutory approvals and permitting activities are carried out on schedule and coordinated with the overall Project Schedule.
/ Be fully aware of all commercial aspects of design management including estimates, change control and out-turn costs. If required work with design director and commercial team to prepare and present value engineering options that might be available.
/ Drive company sustainability initiatives and ensure sustainability objectives are met throughout the project. Work with design teams, vendors suppliers, and construction partners to innovate and deliver project designs towards low carbon designs, construction methods and choice of materials and equipment.
/ Ensure the design solutions integrate Yondr's health, safety, environmental and quality standards across all projects and ensure ‘Safety in Design’ (SiD) / ‘Design for Safety’ (DfS) practices are implemented.
/ Manage and audit the design schedule/programme at key deliverables milestones and identify inconsistencies, discrepancies and missing information and record, report and track the close-out of these items in an Information Required Schedule (IRS) format or similar. Ensure that shop drawing approvals and technical submission approvals are factored into project schedules.
/ To support the delivery / construction team in the resolution of design related issues in a timely manner to prevent an adverse effect on the construction programme.
/ Support and be accountable for the design and technical due diligence required for the Yondr acquisition program associated to the APAC region.
/ Interface with internal discipline leads in implementing the site-specific data centre design masterplan and basis of design.
/ Work with external customer requirements and the specific site design, based on Yondr's standard design principles, feeding back requirements to Yondr basis of design documents.
/ Work with design and delivery teams to ensure that all MEP interfaces between long lead equipment OFCI vendors/supplier works, and general/main contractor works are coordinated to ensure no scope gaps exist.
Qualifications and experience
/ Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services (Electrical). Chartered Professional Engineer (CEng/CP Eng) or similar is preferred but not essential.
/ Possess at least 10 years of post-qualification experience in highly serviced buildings and possess an understanding of the relationships between the primary Mechanical, Electrical and ICT elements of the build. Must be an ‘out of the box’ thinker.
/ Good working knowledge of other Building Services and ELV design elements is required, exposure to architectural, civil, structural works working knowledge would be advantageous.
/ Knowledge of Data Centres, Wafer Fabrication, Pharmaceutical or other mission critical buildings / facilities is highly desirable.
/ Experience with delivery / contracting side of projects management would be beneficial to ensure better understanding of developer requirements.
/ Experience and possess good understanding in Green Building & Sustainability certification of projects both in principle and practice, e.g. Certified Uptime Institute Tier Designer & Tier Professional and have LEED and/or other sustainability certification.
/ Commercially savvy and support the commercial team to identify opportunities arising from design development and equally manage change control communications. Astute insights of impact to technically led decisions, and data centre costing.
/ Experience with Design & Construction Management programmes / software would be advantageous, preferably someone who has exposure or managed system implementation effectively and mitigating any potential risks to the function.
/ Good relationship builder, team player and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
/ Experience in managing working relationships (internal & external) with cross-cultural experience.
/ Ability to take the lead in technical workshops and meetings, with external consultants and vendors.
