The Role

We’re here to find, develop and engage the best people within and new to the FT. You will be a fantastic leader with articulate vision. You’ll be an expert in your field; and comfortable with pace, ambiguity and high energy. 

The most critical deliverables will be inspiring our managers to become great coaches and leaders; delivering a learning strategy that is fresh, future focused and relevant. You will lead and develop the Learning team of three people and be accountable for aligning our learning strategy to the overall goals of the FT.

You will  be a champion for change, bring a strategic mindset towards the future, and be skilled at leading transformation. You will work closely with a large matrix group of colleagues who lead L&D initiatives across the business. 


Some of the things you will deliver: 

  • Team leadership, coaching and development of the Learning team to maximise potential and to deliver a coherent strategy for our business

  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders and business partners to assess the organisation’s learning and development needs to deliver outstanding learning experiences and results across platforms and locations.

  • Direct the learning strategy including the road-map for L&D that meet the near and long term capability requirements 

  • Facilitate conversations with business leaders, acting as a trusted advisor, to enable high performance of self and their teams 

  • Coach managers to create development plans for team members designed to provide growth opportunities in role through on-the-job learning, special projects, formal training, etc

  • Optimise our newly implemented Learning Management System to shape the learning culture at the FT

  • Consistently communicate and engage with  our partners to keep them aware of L&D strategic initiatives 

  • Oversee our learning contracts, budget and ensure allocation of spend and cost-effective solutions

  • Thought leadership - maintain proactive and ongoing awareness of industry trends and developments as well as functional best practices


Required Skills / Experience 

  • Strong people leader, team management and strategic leadership skills

  • Proven expertise in creating impact focussed L&D strategies and interventions 

  • Facilitation and training design and delivery

  • Working across cultures and with globally dispersed teams 

  • Relevant Coaching skills / qualifications

  • Analytical, problem solving and decision making

  • Track record of  building and influencing senior relationships 

  • Budget management
