Overview
Reporting to the Director of Tax, the successful candidate will possess a mix of strong direct tax reporting and compliance experience, exposure to transfer pricing issues and documentation requirements and a good understanding of other international tax matters, as well as an ability to adapt to a dynamic business environment.
Key responsibilities
- Review of UK corporation tax computations and returns for the Financial Times group (around 17 UK entities) and associated payments on account (prepared in house by Tax Assistant Manager).
- Tax reporting and provisioning for year end, statutory accounts, mid-year reporting and budgeting / forecasting.
- Primary responsibility for maintaining contemporaneous transfer pricing documentation for the worldwide Financial Times group.
- Assisting in maintaining / setting FT group transfer pricing policy.
- Business partnering with the commercial teams in advising the business on the tax implications of business changes, contracts, new products or markets.
- Supporting the Director of Tax with the completion of due diligence on acquisitions and responsible for full integration of the target into the business in respect of corporate tax.
- Liaising with Global Mobility (global HR) on employee worldwide assignments, to minimise permanent establishment and other tax risks.
- Dealing with HMRC enquiries on corporation tax matters.
- Advising the business on global withholding tax issues including extraction of dividends cross border.
- Involvement in processes and controls for Senior Accounting Officer, Corporate Criminal Offence and the tax risk register.
- Undertake ad-hoc duties as required from time to time in relation to tax.
- Responsibility for the development of the Tax Assistant Manager.
Experience
- Sound knowledge of UK tax legislation and at least 5 years post qualified experience
- Strong understanding of international tax issues, including permanent establishment and transfer pricing.
- Qualified Accountant, with relevant tax qualification also preferred.
- Previous knowledge of US tax would be an advantage.
- Strong communications and Excel analysis skills.
- Resourceful, practical, able to handle ambiguity, resilient, able to function effectively under pressure.
