Jumia is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE:JMIA) and therefore must comply with the SOX regulations that govern the internal control framework over financial reporting.

As part of the SOX team of the Group and with a direct report to the Head of SOX, you will take part in the implementation of the company’s SOX program, helping with the design of controls, liaising with all stakeholders from Finance, Business and IT teams on the implementation of their controls, as well as coordinating with external auditors on the annual audit of controls. This role offers a unique perspective on the company’s organization and processes and gives exposure to senior management on a multi-functional and multi-regional level.

What you will be doing:

  • Assist with the design and implementation of the SOX (Sarbanes Oxley Act) Program;
  • Support business units and audit teams to ensure SOX activities, including evaluation of financial statement risks and determination of the sufficiency of internal controls over financial reporting to mitigate those risks;
  • Interact with senior management, team members, process owners and external auditors;
  • Understand business processes from an operational, financial and systems perspectives, and identify corresponding risks and controls;
  • Liaise with the process owners to ensure business processes, risks and controls are adequately documented within narratives and flowcharts;
  • Assist in reviewing and updating the risk controls matrix (RCM);
  • Prepare population and sample requests/testing forms in the SOX Program tool, and ensure the correct assignment to control owners/testers;
  • Assist in driving the development and execution of SOX testing approaches to ensure all key business risks and controls are evaluated;
  • Assist in identifying remediation plans in cooperation with the control owners, deficiencies, gaps or issues identified by either the SOX team, external/internal audit teams;
  • Track remediation progress for all identified deficient controls identified by audit;
  • Prepare SOX Program status presentations;
  • Other tasks as required.

What we are looking for:

  • Background in Economics/Business Management/Industrial Engineering, or related field;
  • Interest in BPM (business process mapping) and documentation;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Detail-oriented mindset;
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively;
  • Hands-on attitude, because e-commerce is 50% operations and processes;
  • Passion for making things happen and getting excited about identifying and delivering simple solutions to complex problems;
  • Fluent in English both verbal and written / French is a plus;
  • Experience in SOX, audit or internal control is a plus;
  • Previous exposure to a multinational environment is a plus.
