About the role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive FinOps Analyst with experience in AWS cloud environments.   

The role is based in an IT Operations team, but will be working closely with engineers from Site Reliability and a cloud architect across an existing as well as a developing multi account environment.

What you will do:

  • Cloud Cost Analysis:
    • Analyse AWS cloud usage and spending across multiple accounts and services.
    • Create and maintain reports and dashboards to track cloud expenses, identify trends, and highlight areas of concern.
    • Provide detailed breakdowns of cloud costs by service, project, or department to support financial decision-making.
  • Cost Optimization:
    • Collaborate with SRE and operations teams to identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
    • Assist in the implementation of cost optimization strategies, including rightsizing, Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, and other AWS pricing models.
    • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of cost optimization initiatives, providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Work with finance and cloud operations teams to develop and manage cloud budgets and forecasts.
    • Assist in the creation of cost models to project future cloud expenses based on historical data and anticipated usage.
    • Track actual cloud spend against budgets, providing variance analysis and insights.
  • FinOps Best Practices:
    • Support the adoption of FinOps principles across the organization, promoting financial accountability and cloud cost awareness.
    • Assist in training and educating stakeholders on cloud cost management and optimization techniques.
    • Stay up-to-date with AWS pricing changes, new services, and industry best practices to continuously refine cost management strategies.
  • Tooling and Automation:
    • Utilize FinOps tools (e.g., CloudHealth, AWS Cost Explorer, Cloudability) to support cost management and reporting processes.
    • Assist in the development and maintenance of automation scripts and tools to streamline cloud cost management tasks.
  • Reporting and Documentation:
    • Prepare and present regular financial reports to stakeholders, highlighting key metrics, trends, and opportunities for savings.
    • Maintain documentation of cloud cost management processes, policies, and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance.

What you will bring:

  • Proven experience in cloud cost management, financial analysis, or a related role, with a focus on AWS.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services and pricing models, as well as cloud financial management tools
